Shops in Belgium running out of Stella, Leffe and Jupiler as Anheuser-Busch InBev workers blockade breweries in protest over job cuts.

Belgian beer-drinkers hoping to forget the recession and freezing weather weather over a few pints of their favourite brew are in for a shock.

Shops are set to run out of the best-selling Stella Artois, Leffe and Jupiler brands in the coming days, as workers blockade three breweries in Belgium owned by Anheuser-Busch InBev.

AB InBev, the world's biggest brewer, last week announced plans to make about 10pc of its staff in Western Europe redundant after years of falling beer consumption in the region.

The brewer plans to shed more than 300 staff in both Belgium and Germany, where it employs 2,700 and 3,000 people respectively.

%%
In Belgium, there is no beer,
They won’t be makin’ it here.
Once InBev’s gone from here,
Somewhere else, they’ll be makin’ all the beer...

I tell my sister all the time that the food pyramid recommends 6-11 servings of liquid grain per day.

Stella Artois is over rated. So many better beers brewed in Belgium, I expect the strike will only cause more AB workers to lose their jobs.

You know the economy is bad when they’re making layoffs at the brewery.

Stella Artois is over rated.

Overrated indeed.
And nigh near unpalatable. At least to me. I mean, I like a hoppy brew a bit on the bitter side but Stella Artois is just beyond the India Pale Ale.

"The company said the cuts are necessary because beer consumption has fallen by about 20pc in Belgium since 2000."

THAT doesn't sound right. What's up with the Phlegms and Waloonies?
