While congrats are in order, I think his election is a mistake. Only 4 years of 100+ rbi (and only 3 more with 90+), horrendous OBP (.323), only 3 years with 30+ home runs, and middling OPS (.806). I suppose his fielding was excellant, and he did have over 300 stolen bases. Good, but not great.

Glad to see that Blyleven didn't make it, although he seems a shoe-in for next year. Just because a guy averages 14 wins and 170 strike outs a year for 20 years does not mean they belong in the Hall of Fame (key word being FAME). Same goes for Sutton, Cepeda, and Perez, who don't belong. Screw the stats - never once during Blyleven's career was he considered to be anything but an above-average pitcher. Nowhere near as good as Palmer, Seaver, Carlton, Jenkins, Perry, Niekro, or other contemporaries who are in. That simple.

I should quickly add that I am shocked that Alomar was elected. Spitting incident aside, he’s one of the top 3 second basemen ever (along with Hornsby and Morgan).

The Hall of Fame has been watered down.

Dawson’s not good enough. Blyleven isn’t either. Alomar should be in, though ... one of the top two modern era second basemen (likely with Biggio).

Dawson was awesome for those 3-4 years though. But I agree, not a HOF career.

.279 with medicocre power stats for an outfielder should exclude you from the HOF.

Dawson was a very good player and is probably better than a lot of people already in the Hall of Fame. But how he can get in and Ron Santo can be kept out is beyond me.

Santo was one of the best third basemen to ever play the game. Defensively, I think Brooks Robinson and Pie Traynor were the only ones who were better and he clobbers them both on offensive statistics, even though most of his career was in a pitcher's era.

Ditto for Bert Blyleven-- a very good pitcher, but not up to the Hall of Fame standards compared to the others which you mention. Still, in Bert's case, I think longevity does count for something and he'll get in just as Tommy John earned his way in for the same reason.

Dawson was a mediocre fielder who hit over 300 only 5 times and over 35 homers only once. Not all that impressive for a guy who got in for his offense.

If Dawson deserves this, then they ought to kick the door wide open and let every "power" hitter with 10 yrs experience in.... Shameful.

you dont know anything about bert blyleven. you should go pitch and get 170 strikeouts and 14 wins for twenty years. then you can start talking your big talk.i hope so much that he gets in because he deserves it and i want to stuff it down your mouth.and yes he is A GREAT PITCHER. WAY BETTER THAN A LOT OF OTHER PITCHERS.AND for the record I love that tony perez got in the hall in 2000. Way to go!!!!I LOVE WHEN PLAYERS GET IN THE HALL OF FAME.I think all the diversity in the hall of fame makes it a lot more interesting!!!!!!!! im a huge Cubs fan and HIP HIP HOORAY FOR THE HAWK!!!!!Finally he is where he belongs.

Dawson? Is this a joke? No excuse to keep out Mattingly and about 50 others now.
