Chris Dodd to step aside

Embattled Connecticut Sen. Chris Dodd (D) has scheduled a press conference at his home in Connecticut Wednesday at which he is expected to announce he will not seek re-election, according to sources familiar with his plans.

Dodd's retirement comes after months of speculation about his political future, and amid faltering polling numbers and a growing sense among the Democratic establishment that he could not win a sixth term. It also comes less than 24 hours after Sen. Byron Dorgan (D-N.D.) announced he would not seek re-election.

State Attorney General Richard Blumenthal is widely expected to step into the void filled by Dodd and, at least at first blush, should drastically increase Democrats' chances of holding the seat.

Blumenthal, who has served as state Attorney General since 1990, is the most popular politician in the state and has long coveted a Senate seat; he had already signaled that he would run for the Democratic nomination against Sen. Joe Lieberman (I) in 2012. (A sidenote: Assuming Blumenthal gets in to the race, Rep. Chris Murphy could be the long-term beneficiary as he is widely regarded as a rising star and would be at the top of the list of Democratic hopefuls to challenge Lieberman in 2012.)

Without Dodd as a foil, Republicans chances of taking over a seat in this solidly blue state are considerably diminished. Former Rep. Rob Simmons and wealthy businesswoman Linda McMahon are battling it out for the Republican nod but either would start as an underdog in a general election matchup with Blumenthal.

Dodd joins North Dakota Sen. Byron Dorgan on the sidelines for Democrats. Six Republicans Senators are not seeking re-election in November.

Dodd's retirement comes roughly two years after his presidential ambitions came to an end

Bad news - Dodd would have been an easy pickup. Oh well, the Repubs are not going to win the Senate - we need to focus on the House.

These are strategic resignations. They want to clear the ballott for a new “hopey change” Rat to win against a GOP bad guy. The old Rats will just now work as lobbyists and make a mill a month...plus all the booze they can swill.
They will be paid off big time by all the Rat donors.

Sen. Chris Dodd (D)to step aside.

Two down, 56 to go. Dodd was one of the worse, he helped tank the economy by making banks give mortgages to folks who had no likelihood of making the payments and he had the FHA, Fannie Mae & Freddie Mac buy all the bogus paper so the taxpayers were on the hook for the defaults.

Not necessarily. If the Pubs are smart they will run against Obiecare, Crap&Trade and Dingy Harry. Has Blumenthal taken a public position on these issues?

But.... don't worry. This PIG, too, will vote Yes on Health Care reform and then line up on K Street for the lobbying goodies. Whores, all. He should resign now WITHOUT VOTING...

Hmm.. The rats are remobilizing, hoping to put up no-name rats who they believe have a better shot at winning than the incumbent rats. On the one hand, this doesn’t say much for the rats’ performance lately, but on the other hand there is no underestimating the stupidity of the ignorant chattering class who might actually believe the new rat is an improvement over the old rat.

HELLO ! WASHINGTON POST LEFT OUT AN IMPORTANT SOMEONE . . . . . surprise, surprise, surprise.

Peter Schiff is running for Dodd’s seat. If you don’t know who he is, you should ! He was the only one who predicted this entire mess in 2006 and he was laughed at. Watch his youtube channel.

I’m not so sure....how is any RAT candidate going to be able to run away from what this congress has done? The DNC isn’t going to give them $$ to run on an anti-administration, anti-congress platform. If the GOPers put up any kind of decent, low tax, pro-life, small government candidates they should win.

What does he care? He will take his millions and in 1-3 years, become a respected mouthpiece for the progressive movement and make even more $$$.

That’s the way politics works these days, my friends...

I just donated (again) to Peter Schiff. He mentioned a few weeks ago on his podcast that he gets the most donations from California. Amazing.
