"No. Having an ####### attitude like yours will result in continued defeat. Justly deserved, I’d say."

No Sir. It is an attitude such as yours that very nearly prevented this union from being formed in the first place.

It was Ben Franklin who said "We must, indeed, all hang together, or assuredly we shall all hang separately".

Of course, I am explaining this to a man who referred to my home state as a cesspool in an earlier post. In spite of that, I am willing to give you the benefit of the doubt, and assume that you love this country as I do.

That being said, I think we can agree that our nation is in trouble. Our current President is moving us rapidly towards socialism. He is doing this with the aid and consent of the Congress. We as citizens have the ability to throw out that Congress, and I believe we will.

My point is that the upcoming Massachusetts special election, which comes at a strange time due to the death of Ted Kennedy, opens an opportunity for conservatives to take back a Senate seat which the Kennedy clan has controlled for 56 years. It is an historic opportunity, and I am doing everything I can to see that it is not wasted.. As an American, I'm sure you can appreciate that, and I know that you and I can agree that we both want the GOP to retake the Congress in 2010. I am only suggesting that this election is a first step toward that end.

Our perspectives may differ, but I know that our goals, as conservative Americans, are the same.

Regardless of our love for our country, and our countrymen, and our willingness to risk all for it and them, it does us no service to be unable to refer to cesspool cities and states as such, if only to guard against the infectious miasma that oozes from them.

I live in one such. We call it Michiganistan. Those of us who could leave, have. We who remain hope that the inevitable outbreak of cannibalism in the Great Cesspool, the (broken-down-) motor city, will reduce the leftward tilt of the voting population sufficiently to elect mere idiots, rather than the committed leftists currently mis-governing, and in the ensuing confusion we may find opportunities for renewed growth— or a final escape.

I hope that you are successful, but the Bay State is a cesspool of liberalism, and everybody knows it. Acknowledging the obvious doesn’t mean a lack of love for my country. Our country is huge, and spans a continent. Mass. is just one small part of it, and it is screwed up, badly. It will, more than likely, stay that way for a long time.
Spare me the you’re not a patriot if you don’t agree with me crap.

Our opinions certainly differ. I’d have been gone five years ago had I been able.

I was born and raised in Massachusetts (Lawrence, pray for me :-) and I still can't figure out the pathology that drives the voters.

Years ago, there was a movement by the large Puerto Rican population in Lawrence to display the Puerto Rican flag all over the city. One day, after I had moved to Cape Cod, I visited my parents in Lawrence and noticed that the streets in their neighborhood and others were lined with American flags. My father explained that the Elks Club had paid for them as a show of patriotism.

I guess the point I'm trying to make is that, even though the Merrimack Valley is a Democrat stronghold, a lot of those Democrats are conservative but suffer from living in an echo chamber. They've got a visceral dislike for Republicans, though they will elect Republican governors - go figure.

It's a crap shoot, but I think it's a possibility that Scott might have a chance.
