(Nashville TN Government) Parking Spots' Words Misspelled At Metro Facility

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- More than a dozen parking spaces at a Metropolitan government facility have misspelled words, and no one noticed until Channel 4 pointed it out Friday. Related: Watch This Story The word "owned" is misspelled 16 times in spaces outside the County Clerk's office off French Landing Drive at MetroCenter.

It's a parking lot, and most people usually don't pay attention to what's on the ground until something is misspelled. Words on the first three parking spots are spelled correctly, but spot No. 4 is misspelled. It should read "Metro Owned Vehicle Parking Only;" however, someone switched up the 'w' and the 'n,' leaving "onwed." Metro is renting the office space to temporarily house the county clerk's office. According to Metro's assistant finance director, the property manager at MetroCenter is responsible for the lettering on parking spaces. Friday, the building manager for MetroCenter told Channel 4 that a subcontractor did the work. He said he didn't notice the misspelling until Channel 4 pointed it out but said it will be corrected.

According to Metro's assistant finance director, there will be no extra cost to Metro government. However, in a tight-budget economy where every penny counts, at least one person feels it should just be left alone. “It certainly is a waste, and I don’t know at this particular point, it's not worth the time and effort, in my opinion,” said Mike Strinich.

MetroCenter's building manager is aware of the incorrect spelling on the spaces and said he plans to call the subcontractor to correct the spellings soon.

There’s a sign on Georgia Tech grounds (east of the freeway) declaring that the particular garden is “draught-resistant.”

The name comes from the Middle English Wednes dei, which is from Old English Wōdnesdæg, meaning the day of the English god Woden (Wodan), a god in Anglo-Saxon England until about the 7th century. Wēdnes dæg is like the Old Norse Oðinsdagr ("Odin's day"), which is an early translation of the Latin dies Mercurii ("Mercury's day"), and reflects the widespread association of Woden with Mercury going back to Tacitus.
