The Algonquins along were reduced from 30,000 to 300 and there were very few to welcome the pilgrims that landed in Mass. in 1620. They died from smallpox. And many of them died from syphilis and in fact knocked off a majority of the Europeans by the spread of syphilis to the Europeans.
From the 1500’s when the first Spanish explorers and their horses came to the US, the ‘native’ population was 12 million, and by the late 1800’s had been reduced to only a few hundred thousand by DISEASE!
