Scientists Find Black Gold Amidst Overlooked Data
NASA ^ | February 18th

Posted on 11/23/2009 7:06:23 AM PST by Halfmanhalfamazing

About half of the oil in the ocean bubbles up naturally from the seafloor, with Earth giving it up freely like it was of no value. Likewise, NASA satellites collect thousands of images every year, but some of them get passed over because no one thinks there is a use for them.

Scientists recently found black gold bubbling up from an otherwise undistinguished mass of ocean imagery. Chuanmin Hu, an optical oceanographer at the University of South Florida, St. Petersburg, and colleagues from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the University of Massachusetts–Dartmouth (UMass), found that they could detect oil seeping naturally from the seafloor of the Gulf of Mexico by examining streaks amid the reflected sunlight on the ocean's surface.

I’ve been postulating this on a few threads to get some feedback -

are the “elites” keeping us from using our resources because they intend to turn them over to our creditors in the future?

The best answer I’ve gotten so far has been that they have, perhaps, used our resources as “collateral” for the loans, and using them up would be a breach and cause all future loans to cease.

so this could be used to find new sea floor drilling sites, right?

I don't know the answer to your question -- but I have a similar one.

Is the theory of Peak Oil just a way to keep the price of oil artificially high, AND what will happen if we learn that oil is forming all the time and has nothing to do with anything transpiring millions of years ago?

Or, say, what will happen to the global economy once there is an unlimited source of FREE energy??

But if there is no way to pull that resource out of the earth, how can we offer it up for exchange? Not every oil well drilled offers up what some people think it will... it just doesn’t seem like very valid collateral to me.

Read Sarah Palin’s “Going Rouge”. There are a few pages describing the impact of the Exxon Valdez spill on the Alaska.

Exactly how much oil naturally seeps out of the seafloor is unknown, and most estimates are very crude because there has never been a proper global survey made for the public record. Researchers identified the natural seepage rate as a critical unanswered question when the National Academy of Sciences compiled its third Oil in the Sea report in 2003.

Nature's salad dressing...

Read Sarah Palin’s “Going Rouge”.

I can't seem to find any such book by Mrs. Palin.

Is that something about the use of makeup? ;-)

In 1914, the Bureau of Mines said U.S. oil reserves would be exhausted by 1924. In 1939, the Interior Department said the world had 13 years worth of petroleum reserves. Then a global war was fought and the postwar boom was fueled, and in 1951 Interior reported that the world had ... 13 years of reserves. In 1970, the world’s proven oil reserves were an estimated 612 billion barrels. By 2006, more than 767 billion barrels had been pumped and proven reserves were 1.2 trillion barrels. In 1977, Scold in Chief Jimmy Carter predicted that mankind “could use up all the proven reserves of oil in the entire world by the end of the next decade.” Since then the world has consumed three times more oil than was then in the world’s proven reserves.

You are probably right, the “powers that be” are pretty certain we wouldn’t figure this out: the electorate DID put the Kenyan terrorist in the WH! (By the way, I love your tagline. It would make a great bumper sticker!)

The concept of “running out of oil” or “Peak Oil” is contrary to basic, natural laws of economics.

You don’t ever really “run out” of any resource or commodity. It just gets more expensive to extract. As the prices go up, previously unattainable deposits become financially viable.

At some point, the costs & prices lead the consumer to choose an “alternative”.

The leftie/greenies want to get to this point artificially through mandated taxes, regulations & subsidies.
