Live Thread: Senate Debate and Cloture Vote on Motion to Proceed to Debate ObamaCare
Saturday, November 21, 2009 | Kristinn

C-SPAN 2 is carrying the Senate floor debate live this afternoon.

The Democrats control the floor right now. Earlier, Republican Senators Judd Gregg, Kit Bond, Jeff Sessions and David Vitter gave good speeches and dialogues on the budget-busting effects of ObamaCare.

Maria Cantwell is speaking now. Mary Landrieu is excpected to speak shortly.

The cloture vote is scheduled for 8 p.m. EST tonight.

It’s safer than packing a picnic lunch and heading off to Bull Run way back when.

Mary Landrieu, aka “The Louisiana Purchase” has to take more time to cover herself.

“I’m not going to be defensive about this,” she says defensively...

Thank you - I get confused with this stuff.

So, if they vote FOR cloture, we wake up tomorrow in another country cause they will then immediately vote up/down like they did in the House?

True. But at least then you got to see real men show true courage.

If the Repubs hold together and get Lieberman is it 40 + 1 votes to stop it?

They all talk a big game, but in the end their noses never leave obama’s butt.

I'm just keeping my eye out for the first state to secede.

Outside that, I am considering other countries. I will not submit any further to Gov't servitude.

If I’m not mistaken, and I very well could be, tyhis is to debate, there is tanother vote for Cloture, which stops debate. 60 votes required.

They also need 60 to END debate - which is where the stand is to be made ... if there indeed will be a stand.

THen if they vote for cloture to END debate it takes 51 to pass.

Is Joe Lieberman our last hope or does his vote not even matter at this point

INCORRECTO!!!!!

The REAL cloture vote is to END debate, NOT to start debate. This vote is meaningless.
