Saturday, November 21, 2009 | Kristinn

C-SPAN 2 is carrying the Senate floor debate live this afternoon.

The Democrats control the floor right now. Earlier, Republican Senators Judd Gregg, Kit Bond, Jeff Sessions and David Vitter gave good speeches and dialogues on the budget-busting effects of ObamaCare.

Maria Cantwell is speaking now. Mary Landrieu is excpected to speak shortly.

The cloture vote is scheduled for 8 p.m. EST tonight.

I’m in my friend. take a shot now or we will be slaves to a Marxist government.
Hey Freepers..National Strikes , Boycotts , sit ins etc may not sound like a good idea tonight..See how you feel when you’re in your 70s and you have to get a lottery number to get a CAT scan or cancer treatment..Remember what I told you back in 2009..PS you think Obama is going to let us all talk like this for very much longer >>? think again ..
When someone tells me of plans for a MASSIVE aggressive march on DC ( not a picnic atmosphere with grandma and the kids) I’ll be there with money ,friends and a belly full of patriotism.

I was doing this in my early 50’s, I enjoyed the reading and I have no real emotional attachment to driving. The Redline would take me within half a block the my favorite bars/eaterys in Hollywood in half the time of driving. I did want to drive the subway back home sometimes, but I could never get in the drivers seat, must have been a union thing LOL

We have a serious leadership crisis in congress and the White House. We haven’t been developing many strong political leaders in either party. Most of the people in congress are careerists who really think of their House or Senate seat as a career or a business, not as an opportunity to lead America in the right direction. Most of them are mainly in it for themselves and they are more loyal to their party organization than to their constituents because their party organization can get them their next high-paying job if they lose an election. The people they supposedly represent, mere citizens, aren’t going to hire them for that next job in their career. If you’re a congressional democrat and you lose an election, your next job will be at a liberal think tank or a liberal university or as a lobbyist talking to your old friends in the democrat party. So these people rarely vote against party leadership now, even when their leadership is clearly leading the country in the wrong direction, as it is with this health care “reform” bill.

We need a 50% turnover in congress to clear out a large number of these careerist people who are just in it for themselves in the political business. We need to find wealthy people and retired ex-military people to run for congress, who are real leaders and aren’t concerned about where they’ll find their next job: business people like John Boehner, ex-military people like Dwight Eisenhower, and people from professional sports and entertainment like Jack Kemp, Bill Bradley, and Sonny Bono. I’m encouraged to hear about Meg Whitman and Carly Fiorina entering the political arena, even if they’re more liberal than we’d like to see. At least they’re not likely to be these careerist people who vote straight along with their party leaders every time. The political process is not functioning well in Washington, and we need to develop new political leaders especially in the GOP. I’d really like to see John Elway run for senator from Colorado. We have great leaders in this country but they’re not going into politics, probably because campaigning has become this very nasty battle of attack and counter-attack through TV ads.

This vote tonight is going to be extremely disappointing. It’s deplorable that so many careerist politicians would vote for such a bad idea as a government takeover of health care. The whole thing stinks and many of the careerists who votes for it are going to get beat in their next election when the public finally learns all the details of what a mess the democrats are trying to make out of our health care system. All I can say is everybody take care of your health because you may have a long wait in the future to see a doctor.

LOL — best laugh I’ve had in days — needed that as I am in one P.O.’d mood tonight. Went to the doctors’ march in Westwood, L.A. at federal building today - nice turnout and Hugh Hewitt spoke among others. Good reception from drive-bys on Wilshire despite this being in the belly of the beast, near FUCLA.

Probably we got 15 cheers, honking horns, thumbs up, etc., to every middle finger salute so that’s excellent.

Onward and upward — the poor docs in the crowd looked so befuddled, seriously, as if to ask ‘what on earth is going on?’ Many of them are new to this and haven’t a clue, but they are getting informed quickly and are organizing around the country.

It’s going to be a hard battle against this taking control of our lives. Most of US understand it’s not just about health care - it’s government takeover and that’s all Zero and fellow thugs care about.

Mary Landrieu was endorsed in 2008 by several high ranking LA Republicans, including the late Gov. David Treen. She is highly regarded in LA because people associate her with popular “federal programs” and projects.

What’s happening is that careerist democrat politicians are doing what’s best for their careers in the long run and not what’s best for America. That’s the big problem—way too many senators who view politics as a family business and not as an opportunity to lead America in the right direction. What a mess we have in Washington right now. But as long as vote fraud doesn’t get totally out of control, we can always turn the country around and elect a new congress and a new President.

Yeah kcvl, and we got something for them too.

I'll believe it when I see it! I hear all about revolt but yet this crap keeps getting worse and worse day after day. I don't think Democrats give a s**t what any of us think! They have done nothing but give us the middle finger!

Unless they all have a death wish of getting kicked out of congress and just don't realize it I'm totally confused about what they are doing! So what if they get their 'WISH' and some of them have to take the fall. Is that the strategy?

They can't be stupid enough to think the American people are for this mess! I know they ignore us most of the time but can they keep it up until the next election? Are they going to avoid the voters completely?!

Me too, I’m ready any time— we talked about this very thing at the doctors’ march at L.A. federal building today. Docs and nurses and citizens ready to go — the “millions of citizens for freedom” march — no, not a warm and fuzzy deal — we really mean business this time.

Repeating mw18787's post from #377 (thank you, mw18787):

In Case You're Just Tuning In [Robert Costa]

There are a few things you need to know about tonight's vote and what it means.

— One, Obamacare (in the form of a cloture vote on Senate majority leader Harry Reid's bill) needs 60 votes tonight to be eligible for a final Senate-floor debate. Tonight's vote, in other words, is the last procedural roadblock for Democrats as they push to bring their health-care bill to its final legislative stage.

— Two, if Reid does get his 60 votes tonight, and the bill moves to the floor, it's a big win for Democrats — if but for a moment. The Senate would then go on Thanksgiving break and come back to start the final health-care debate on Monday, November 30th.

— Three, if the bill moves to the floor for a final debate, that debate could stretch on for a long time. Why? Reid will need 60 votes to end the final debate. However, Reid does not need 60 to pass the bill. He only needs 51 for that.

Think of it like this: tonight's vote to move the bill to the floor needs 60 to pass. Then, to end the debate on the bill once it's on the floor and move to a final vote, Reid needs 60 votes again. If he can clear these two hurdles, the bill will come to a final vote in the Senate, where it needs 51 votes to pass. Even if it passes in say early 2010, then the bill will then head to a conference committee between the House and the Senate, where issues will be hashed out even more before it has any chance of reaching President Obama's desk.

So, it's a long road ahead. Stay with us through the fight.

Well what it seems like we will be headed to is an unconstitutional regime in America. So when we vote out the bums in 2010, if we can even wait that long. Plan on an attempt by somebody to try to impeach the president, hopefully. When that fails expect war of some kind.

I kid you not and I am not saying this to sound extreme. But we are heading down that road. This administration in the White House is full of bad people. The American people will stand for this.

Many of the idiots who vote for the wrong side thought they were getting something else. Nobody wants what they are ramming down our throats. Nobody.

The events that will trigger a showdown, can come in amny ways. But the fact is I see that when the people are fed up then there is no option but the start fighting. That and with the far far left not wanting to listen and go full steam ahead they may blow a gasket when they are beaten back in 2010.

Sad but this country is about to get a bumpy ride. About the best one can hope for is something like Honduras where the military helps to depose of Obama. But it is doubtful.

correction: I meant to say the American people will not stand for this. Some places in the country will not stand for this.

I wouldn’t be surprised for states to succeed and declare sovereignty. Some already passed the motions.

The whole thing is a freaking disaster for America. It’s an absolute mess created by a bunch of a**hole politicians in that stinking political cesspool known as Washington, D.C. We the people need to drain that swamp and kick half of those people out of congress. It’s a disgrace to the country that the monstrous unconstitutional Stalinist PelosiCare bill actually passed our House of Representatives. Everyone who voted for it should be thrown out of office in 2010. It’s time for a peaceful rebellion to retake our country from the political trash in Washington.

There will be no serious attempt to impaeach ZerO and no war. We just have to wait all the way until 2012 to get rid of him.

But new congresses and new presidents rarely overturn the past. Eisenhower, for instance, never considered repealing any of the New Deal except for the Reconstruction Finance Corp. Richard M. Nixon, whose daughter is pro-Obama, expanded the Great Society. Ronald Reagan changed little of Carterism, as I recall, but maybe there was something I forgot. GWB refused to investigate the thrashing of the White House by Clintoids on January 19-20, 2001.
