“AL-QAIDA AGENT SENTENCED TO 100-MONTHS IN PRISON”

Story Published: Oct 29, 2009 at 2:31 PM CST
Story Updated: Oct 29, 2009 at 5:08 PM CST

SNIPPET: “A former West Peoria resident and admitted al-Qaida agent, Ali al-Marri, was sentenced to more than eight years in prison for conspiring to help a foreign terrorist organization.

Al-Marri had faced a maximum sentence of 15 years, but U.S. District Judge Michael Mihm imposed a shorter sentence of eight years and four months Thursday.

Before sentencing Ali al–Marri, Judge Michael Mihm spoke of the treatment al–Marri received for 71–months in a military brig. He was isolated, slept on a metal bed without mattress or pillow and was the subject of what his lawyers claimed were harsh interrogations.

For that reason Judge Mihm sentenced al–Marri to almost half the 15–years federal prosecutors had asked for.”

The judge says this:

In sentencing al–Marri, Judge Mihm told him "I do not believe you regret what you did and I believe you would do it again." Mihm also said he believe that if al–Marri returned home he was likely to renew his association with al–Qaida.

Yet he halves his sentence?

I suppose the Judge did that to punish the military police. Kind of like cutting off your nose because you don’t like your own face.

Eight years for planning to launch a terror attack against our people!

Looks like a preview of what's to come in New York with the exception of potential indictments of Bush era officials and military leaders for war crimes.

This administration is after Bush blood and this seems a likely route for them.

Some judges are such “whack-jobs”. As usual, the perp will get out early and go on to kill innocents. Meanwhile the judge will retire handsomely in some far-off, safe area of the country.

“...judge will retire handsomely in some far-off, safe area of ANOTHER country.”

Fixed it.

I caught a blurb on the AOL news this morning that an Illinois prison is being considered to temporarily hold some terrorists from Gitmo (maybe some of the NYC trial bunch temporarily).

The blurb didn't specify what prison it would be other than "it is about 150 miles west of Chicago".

The Marion, Illinois federal pen (where Gotti lived and died) is way south of Chicago. So I doubt if that is it.

Does anyone have any idea if there is a Club Fed west of Illinois?

Maybe AOL was incorrect and it WILL be Marion.

I just had my above post answered on another thread. Looks like it will be a presently-empty prison in the Quad Cities area....although a "town" was not mentioned. It's near the Mississippi River and I believe it's called the "Thompson" prison.....maybe after former Illinois governator, Jim Thompson.

Might be an unincorporated area where there's a very light population.

This is all I have read right now.

Thank you, sir.

I know the area. Some gorgeous scenery around there. Galena is a tourist magnet.

WASHINGTON (AP) — A Qatari diplomat who caused a bomb scare after sneaking a smoke in an airplane bathroom was traveling for a consular visit to see an imprisoned al-Qaida agent.

A State Department official and another person close to the matter say Mohammed Al-Madadi was going to meet Ali Al-Marri for an official visit.

Consular officials frequently visit foreigners held in the United States to make sure they are being treated well.
