NY-23 2009: America has changed [Hoffman concedes defeat to Owens]
Doug Hoffman for Congress ^ | 2009-11-04

Posted on 11/03/2009 9:58:12 PM PST by rabscuttle385

America has changed, and you have helped. Although we did not succeed in winning this election, we have succeeded in making sure political parties and special interests no longer take the people for granted. I believe we have sent a powerful message and laid the groundwork for future conservative campaigns.

I congratulate Bill Owens on a hard won victory. In our tradition of free elections, our country continues. And although Bill Owens has won, I believe America is turning the page to a new dawn.

The ideas of freedom, sound fiscal management and citizen government have sprung back into our consciousness. Our founding fathers would be proud of New York 23. It was here that our principles, those that have been the foundation of our nation, came back to life with a vengeance. And it was here that the people rose up against the political bosses who tried to impose their will. It was here that people reached out to control their own destinies again.

Despite the election results, I am optimistic for our future, because now I know that I am not alone in wanting to repair our great nation. Throughout this campaign I have been inspired by the outpouring of support and the intensity of that support.

I’ve met many different people in this campaign, from many walks of life and many professions; each with a different personal story to share. Yet we are all united in the belief that by participating in democracy, we could inspire change.

I urge that no one feel defeated, for this was only one of many elections. We came close, we put our agenda in front of the nation and the nation took notice. The worse thing we could do now, is not continue forward. Next year there are other elections and other candidates who have drawn inspiration from our efforts.

I would like to thank all of you who placed your faith in me, who worked tirelessly and shared your enthusiasm with those around you. You are all patriots, you have all stood up for your country and I am honored to stand among you.

Thank you,

In the end, I’d say today was a loss for Obama, but not a win for conservatives. A win for Hoffman would have put conservatives in a very strong position. His loss means the fight for the soul of the GOP is alive and well, and certainly won’t be resolved before the 2010 elections. This could get ugly.

I agree with that.

Your thoughts are what I’ve been thinking.

No wonder this certain poster wanted Dede to win-—one more RINO to disrupt the country.

Maybe you should look into conservatism, it is real popular here at freerepublic.

Clearly winning is not. I've donated hundreds of dollars to FR and I've been posting here since 1999. Maybe you should look into clicking on the posters name before you make assumptions.

I used to call myself a conservative Republican...now I'm just a Republican. I want to defeat rats...something conservatives seem opposed to.

And another thing, the RINO’s here at FR are trying to spin this as a big loss for conservatives, but deep down they are scared.

They know this was a huge showing for a candidate who was only in the race for just a few weeks....and who also gained lots of votes in a very liberal state!

If you got kosclowns and ACORN saying that a RINO was the rat’s rat over another rat—then why would you want that in the House???

I have been reading through your posting history through the evening, it is clear that you do not like conservatism or conservatives, I didn't expect to come back to this thread and see you admit it so easily though.

It is very clear that you prefer Scozzafava over a conservative, period, you really seem to care about the woman and her place in the republican party. I hope you realize that she is finished in republican politics.

Oooh, you haven’t seen the arguments yet. Give it time. Rubio can’t win moderates, dontchaknow, just like Hoffman in NY23 couldn’t... That’s only the beginning...

Well, maybe the GOP can put you on their payroll to make that argument to conservatives.

You can use this thread as a sample of your work.

On second thought, maybe you better not. Not too many conservatives are buying your argument here.

Better to have tried and failed then to never have tried at all, besides at the least a conservative vs a leftist appears more sensical than a leftist vs a leftist... at least you get the option of a choice!

Hoffman succeeded in fully exposing the liberals in the Republican party in a very glaring light. He did his country a great favor.

rats lie. They wanted this outcome. Foolish conservatives bought it and backed an unelectable FAR-right candidate in a RINO district in a liberal state. Go check KOS and see how they are laughing at us.

Do you really think KOS wanted a Republican, who was also endorsed by the 11 GOP county chairman in NY-23 (and they know a little bit about their district), Gingrich, and the NRA, was preferable to a liberal rat?

Do you really?

Well, forget about what KOS wants. One thing’s for sure-—conservatives did not want another RINO.

Mission accomplished.

If this had been settled with a primary election (like should have happened here) then the moderates wouldn’t have been nursing a grudge and a conservative candidate could have won easily.

If this had been settled with a primary election Hoffman would not have won, and conservatives wouldn't have wasted a lot of time, money, and headlines better written about 0's failures.

The more of his past posts that you read the more you realize that this guy is close to troll material, he really, really dislikes conservatives.

“The conservative wing of the party is lead by talk radio, and are no conservatives of national stature, because talk radio doesn’t consider men like John McCain, Rudy Giuliani, and Mitt Romney really “conservative.”

Heh. She is finished in politics, period. She just jacked $900,000.00 from the GOP, then quit and endorsed the opposition party. Do you honestly think the Democrats will give her the opportunity to punk them like that?

Whoever trusts a mole, or a double agent that has been turned? Like the defector she is, she will be allowed to exist in her new ‘home’, but she will never be trusted or achieve power or status.

It’s one battle my friend but we are in for the long haul! We have many battles to fight and I am proud of Hoffman and will never look at the GOP the same again for what they did in that race. And we must never let them forget they lost that race not Hoffman!

Gingrich breaks bread with Pelosi, so who’s selling who out? RINOs lie, too. But I learned that long ago. RINOs won’t get my vote. 94% of NY-23 didn’t want to back one, either.
