Republican Dede Scozzafava endorsed her former Democratic opponent Sunday in the race for an upstate New York congressional seat, one day after Scozzafava dropped out of the contest.
Scozzafava dropped out after Conservative Party candidate Dough Hoffman experienced a late-in-the-game surge. But on Sunday, Scozzafava backed Democrat Bill Owens -- the announcement was made in a statement send out by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.
"I am supporting Bill Owens for Congress and urge you to do the same," she said. "In Bill Owens, I see a sense of duty and integrity that will guide him beyond political partisanship. He will be an independent voice devoted to doing what is right for New York. Bill understands this district and its people, and when he represents us in Congress he will put our interests first."

We should have an interesting discussion of this late Tuesday night.
All you RINO killers - this is your big test. Hope you were right - really, I do.
This shows that the RNC and the RATS are in it together, and strengthens my opinion that it’s time for the GOP to disappear.
See you all Tuesday.

Michael Steele will use this to sway the GOP away from the RINO path. Give him a chance.

RNC Chairman Michael Steele said in a written statement that he "respects" Scozzafava's decision that will allow the RNC to endorse and support Hoffman. "This selfless act of releasing her supporters provides voters with the opportunity to unite around a candidate who shares Republican principles and will serve the interests of his constituents in Congress by standing in opposition to the liberal policies of President Obama and Speaker Pelosi," he said.

RNC really has the loyalty of its members, eh?

I love this post from his blog site by anonymous:
So, Newt, was it "statesmanlike" for her to now endorse the DEMOCRAT?!
A bunch of nobodies on the internet understood this situation from the beginning and showed themselves to be 10x as politically savvy than you.
Thus, the questions must be asked: are you relevant? are you necessary to the conservative movement?
Time to ask yourself some tough questions, Newt.

Most of the libertarians Ive bumped into right here on FR all show up on the morality threads supporting RINOs and advocating dope legalization, pornography, perversion, abortion, flag burning, and general chaos/anarchy/lawlessness Point to a single thread where a libertarian advocated pornography, perversion, abortion, flag burning, chaos.

I wouldn't really be so sure RR had a choice, as you implied. Maybe not. But the GOP elite, regaining control away from it's voters was a disaster for all of us. I am at a point that I am against anyone from the Ivy League. But I may be too late, as the Ivy League seems to control the thoughts of our youth all across the country.

Agreed. I would guess this will make a number of people who were going to vote for the “Republican” candidate motivated to now vote against what was obviously a fraud.
But, like others have posted, I'm to the point I would rather see a Democrat elected rather then a RINO, so even should the results go against us, I still see this as a victory.

She should return every cent she received from the RNC. LOL. Good joke.
It would appear only we serfs are supposed to support the "party" for its own sake. The candidates, of course, go for their ideology. How anyone can be surprised by Scozzafava backing a commie-in-arms Democrat is beyond me.

I hope some good comes from this. Hoffman winning this thing is crucial. There are people at the NRCC and RNC that should be fired.
What a disgrace the party of Reagan has become, something that's not exactly a surprise to most of us here or to Sarah Palin.

I remember watching the Clinton followers in the Rose Garden after he was impeached. Same state of mind. No comparison.
Clinton's supporters acknowledged that he had committed actual wrongdoing, it simply didn't warrant his removal from office.
I'll give Hoffman a chance to to build a voting record on Capitol Hill before I make a decsion to turn against him.
DeDe has a voting record in Albany that proves that she's no different than a Democrat.

Look, you spent a whole thread attacking him over a tchnicality, and defending her yesterday. Anyone who sees the thread can remind you of it, no need to find a quote, anyone can see the whole thread.
Question for you: Did anyone.....anyone agree with you yesterday?
Now that she's been shown to be a total fraud, perhaps you should think about how wrong you were.......

While the establishment GOP remained clueless, conservatives recognized Scozzafava for what she is—a Democrat political operative posing as a Republican congressional candidate. It would be interesting to study her campaign's E-mail traffic with Washington.

Newt. As RNC chair, Steele has to support the “Republican” in each race. Newt, however, is under no such constraint.

Conservatives are supposed to hold their noses and vote for RINOs like Maverick McCain, but there is no such reciprocity by RINOs. It shows how the so called moderate wing of the GOP prefers to just use conservatives. Damn straight.

I wonder what her precise wording was--maybe she said she was dropping out "for the good of the party" without specifying which party.
It reminds me of the Delphic oracle telling Croesus that if he attacked Persia, he would destroy a mighty empire, without telling him that it would be his own empire.

Nice try at spinning, Newt.
