The GOP's New York Fiasco - Republicans try to lose a House seat
Wall Street Journal ^ | 10/21/09

Posted on 10/20/2009 6:36:45 PM PDT by ellery

-snip-

The November 2 contest will replace nine-term Republican John McHugh, who resigned to become Secretary of the Army. President Obama carried the district along the Canadian border with 52%, but George W. Bush carried it twice and Republicans outnumber Democrats by 45,000 or so. With voters alarmed about the economy and runaway spending, this ought to be an easy GOP retention.

Yet party bosses have managed to nominate a rare Republican who could lose: Assemblywoman Dede Scozzafava, whose liberal record has caused voters to flee to Doug Hoffman, a business executive who is running on the Conservative line. Mr. Hoffman has more than 20% support in the latest poll, which is only a few points behind Ms. Scozzafava, who is only a little behind Democratic lawyer Bill Owens.

Democrats want to portray this race as a familiar moderate-conservative GOP split, but the real issue is why Ms. Scozzafava is a Republican at all. She has voted for so many tax increases that the Democrat is attacking her as a tax raiser. She supported the Obama stimulus, and she favors "card check" to make union organizing easier, or at least she did until a recent flip-flop. She has run more than once on the line of the Working Families Party, which is aligned with Acorn. Her voting record in Albany puts her to the left of nearly half of the Democrats in the assembly. She also favors gay marriage, which is to the left of Mr. Obama.

GOP county chairmen pushed Ms. Scozzafava for the job in July at the behest of GOP state party chairman Joe Mondello, who has since (and blessedly) stepped down. Mr. Mondello also hand-picked loser James Tedisco in another special Congressional election earlier this year.

New York needs to clean up its Republican Party.
The Congressional Race is VERY important, but it is also important to make sure that the Party Bosses NEVER pull something like this, ever again!

It’s not just New York republicans—almost the entire national GOP leadership is pushing this flaming leftist, sending her many hundreds of thousands in funds that were meant to support conservative candidates, and slandering people like Mike Pence who refuse to go along with this farce. For example:

-Michael Steele, head of the RNC, who sent hundreds of thousands of dollars to be spent on her behalf

-US Rep. Pete Sessions, chair of the National Republican Congressional Committee, who sent half-a-million dollars for advertising

-US Rep. John Boehner, House minority leader, who twisted arms in the House to get GOP members to endorse Scozzafava and send her money

-US Rep. Eric Cantor (House minority whip), US Rep. Kevin McCarthy, and 15 other craven GOP US representatives who wrote her checks and badmouthed conservative US Rep. Mike Pence for refusing to support her

-Newt Gingrich, has-been, who rushed to endorse her over the actual conservative in the race

-US Rep. Patrick McHenry, the head of the so-called “House Conservatives Fund,” who refuses to support a conservative House candidate against an ACORN- and Daily Kos-supported leftist. This outrage is compounded by the weaselly, pathetic excuse that he can’t support conservative candidates in 2009, but only in 2010.

With Republicans like this, who needs Democrats?

The time has come to draw the line in the sand and say “NO MORE RINOS”. Maybe the GOP will get the message, maybe not. If not, it will be their loss.

Calling her a RINO insults Rino’s. If that is possible.

Now Sen. Susan Collins and Rep. Ginny Brown-Waite (FL) are going to campaign for her:

We must cleanup the Republicans.

They havent been acting like Republicans should since the Budget shutdown battle with Clinton. After taking a beating they just decided that they would be the party of big spending then.

If the Republicans lose this safe seat, ALL of the above need to face real conservative challengers. The revolution has begun.

Will someone please relay this thread to the offices of each of the above including Michael Steele.

From one of your links:

“It has been much rumored, but not fully confirmed until now. Dick Armey, the House Majority Leader after the 1994 Conservative Revolution will go to New York to campaign for Doug Hoffman.”

When? Where? I can’t find any dates on your links.

We need to know so we can show up to add our support for Hoffman and Conservative values.

a defeat would teach Republicans that running candidates who believe in nothing will keep them in the minority for years to come.

WSJ and others still talking about this election teaching Republicans a lesson, but they've done it before and lost and learned nothing. It's their neurotic, self-defeating pattern.

The Republicans haven’t learned a damn thing!! The grassroots will have to work and win the upcoming elections on our own and clean up our state precincts on our own and get our party back to the party of Reagan...on our own!

More evidence that the Republican party should be put out of our misery at the earliest practical election. Is anyone else planning on hosting a stay-at-home party election day?

Thanks. That would be the day after tomorrow (Thursday). It’s only about 4 hour drive for us and my Gadsen flag hasn’t been to work since the TEA Party Express in Albany.

Thanks again......panax
