Former Alaska Governor Sarah Palins forthcoming autobiography has been at the top of the Amazon book charts for weeks, and it hasnt even been released yet. At least in the eyes of the political Left, she is now perhaps Americas most visible national Republican.
But new Rasmussen Reports national telephone surveying finds Palin losing handily in face-to-face march-ups with her two likeliest challengers for the 2012 Republican presidential nomination.
Among likely Republican primary voters, Palin now trails former Arkansas governor-turned-Fox-TV-host Mike Huckabee by 20 points 55% to 35%.
When her opponent is ex-Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney, Palin loses by 15 52% to 37%.
(Want a free daily e-mail update? If it's in the news, it's in our polls). Rasmussen Reports updates are also available on Twitter or Facebook.
When given a list of five candidates and asked who they would vote for in 2012, 29% of Republican voters nationwide say Huckabee, while 24% prefer Romney and 18% Palin.
In July, it was close to a three-way tie: 25% said Romney, 24% Palin and 22% Huckabee.
Its noteworthy that Huckabees gains since July are matched almost precisely by Palins decline. That suggests a large pool of voters are committed to choosing between two candidates routinely dismissed as unacceptable in the eyes of Republicans in Washington, DC. At the moment, 47% prefer either Huckabee or Palin while 42% prefer a candidate more acceptable to Republican political leaders. That divide is also reflected, with similar results, in a Huckabee-Romney head to head match-up.
Twenty-one percent (21%) of primary voters also say Palin is the GOP candidate they would least like to see win the partys presidential nomination. Just nine percent (9%) say the same of Romney, and eight percent (8%) feel that way about Huckabee.
Support for Huckabee and Romney against Palin is nearly the same among both men and women. Suggesting that Romneys Mormon faith may still be a problem among some Christian conservatives, Palin leads him by 14 points 52% to 38% - among GOP primary voters who describe themselves as Evangelical Christians. But Romney beats Palin by 26 points among other Protestants 58% to 32% - and holds similar winning margins among Catholic voters and those of other faiths.
On the other hand, Huckabee, an ordained Southern Baptist minister, beats Palin by 17 points among Evangelical Christians and 29 points among other Protestants. A similar spread is evident among Republican voters of other faiths, but Huckabee has just an eight-point edge over Palin among Catholic voters.
Earlier polling showed that Palin trails Hillary Clinton in a general election match-up.
In early July, 40% of Republican voters nationwide said Palins decision to resign as governor of Alaska hurt her chances of winning the partys presidential nomination in 2012.
No Christian person who professes to love Jesus can harbor so much hate and intolerance. So those who hatefully speak in the name of righteousness aren't Christians, but rather just some pretentious phonies acting the part. Palin's daughter sinned? We all have sinned. Pompous phonies like DanZanRyu are sinning every time they post a hateful and malicious post.
Hey Dan, if you are reading this, since you are so prompt to condemn Sara Palin for the failings of her daughter, let me tell you something: Huckabee is just a charlatan and his family is filled with gluttons. Huckabee can't control his obese children from eating too much, so his children are living in sin. I bet you are fat, too. At least, your mental fatness was on display today, fat head!
Though Alaska is part of the USA, Alaska isn't reflective of the entirety of the USA. It takes more than one state to elect a national government. So you don't know as much as you claim to know.
That was the 7th reason but it was a really unlikely scenario. You don’t go out of your way to support Huckabee (a very unpopular move when most of FR was for Romney) for something that wasn’t going to happen.
Now the big twist is that it was probably *Fred* that split the vote in order for McCain to win, not huckabee. He quit when his job was done
I hope so.
I don’t expect her to be a total conservative...there are a lot of Freepers who probably don’t think I’m a total conservative and I think that some of them are a bunch of liberaltarians. But Palin’s a pretty good conservative. I can’t really complain.
My real concern is that she may be another FRed. Is for most of the right things but when it comes down to it, doesn’t want to fight.
Failed Christian?
Take a look in the mirror.
If either of those two guys get the nomination I will no longer be a Republican.
No more.
If this is true at Primary time, then the GOP loses big and we lose a country.
Romney is a healthcare loser.
With the $hitstorm going on right now who cares? A leader will shine when it is time and I pray it won’t be politics norm game.
The inside the beltway leadership of the Republican Party has turned its back on the principles of the party and this nation in many ways.
I do not agree at all with the democrats, but I am not going to sit here and hear republicans blame everything on them. Republicans controlled both houses and the white house for a good run, and did we get the English Official Language law or ammendments? Nope. Did we get balanced budgets? Nope... Did we get competent oversite of banking and industry? Nope. Did we get limited government? Nope. Did we get true immigration reform? Nope. Did we get serious immigration enforcement? NOpe.
Don’t tell me you are going to do what’s right, when you have the white house and both houses of the legislature and don’t even bother trying to pass laws that over 80% of the public wants.
The politicians, left or right, do not respect or fear the people as they should. I fear the only way this country will ever return to anything remotely close to what the founders created is going to be through the blood of patriots and tyrants. They sell our nation down the toilet, Both of the parties do, to pad their own pockets and power. They do not respect or fear the public, they truly do not understand they work for us. And until some of their blood runs in the streets, I don’t think they will.
LOL!
Don’t worry about this poster, for all we know he’s a liberal plant.
Thompson? Are you kidding me, all Thompson does is TALK a good game to friendly audiences. His lifetime conservative legislative rating was right with McCain. Not a liberal, but not a hard core conservative either.
My biggest issue with Thompson is simply this, he won’t fight. He showed it througout the last primary cycle... I’m not in, no no no.. yes, no... Only appearing before friendly crowds and delivering populist rhetoric. He’s not the guy for the job.
Anyone can appear in front of friendly crowds and deliver speaches, its a nice skill, but its not leadership. As the inept doofus in the WH right now is proving.
You won’t get an argument from me...
What crap. What is suggest is Evangelical Christians vote for someone who shares their values.
It sure didn’t work that way when Obama was elected. Of course many of these dough heads are having second thoughts.
FYI, White Evangelicals voted overwhelmingly against Obama.
BTW, has the worthless troll who started this thread met the lightning yet?
&&&
More likely he had to go back to his desk in the Huckster’s office.
I may very well happen anyway and thats why your argument is not valid.
I have found myself at odds with both parties and will not for for a candidate of either unless some very drastic changes are made.
By your “logic”, Jesus failed to save Judas Iscariot’s soul.
And exactly how does one determine Huckabee saved several souls and yet imply Sarah is a failed Christian because her daughter sinned and Levi isn’t a Christian?
I got a news flash for you, Sarah has sinned too. Does that disqualify her even more so?
Do you have a rating scorecard for sins? Which sin is the worst?
How do you know who is a Christian and who isn’t? Are you sure Huckabee is a Christian? What is your definition of a failed Christian?
The "Republican" brand is shrinking. They need to poll conservatives.
