I understand you logic about the Mullahs being at war with us since the Embassy takeover. But as someone who served over there, they were at war with us long before the Embassy takeover and before Khomeni arrived on the scene.

History will divulge more of the back door deals that led to them attaining power in the first place and this country’s hands were in on the deal. The only problem is the deal makers were to greedy and arrogant to understand where they were going.

But for right now we need to focus on squashing that regime as soon as possible and we despirately need to be supporting the green ribbon coalition (not to be confused with the environmentalists) to overthrow the maniacle group before we have to hide our eyes from the flash.

We don't disagree. Perhaps I should have confined myself to the main point that QST is not operational in the western part of the political boundaries of Afghanistan and that the attack in this case seems more likely to have originated with the Iranian Qods, that it seems unlikely to have been otherwise. If it were Mullah Omar's Quetta Sura Taliban that led such a seemingly uncharacteristic attack on U.S. forces stationed in the west, this would be a headline in of itself.

As to supporting those operating in Iran politically under a Green banner, I agree that the U.S. ought to be supporting their efforts by all means. Unfortunately, it is difficult to imagine this administration supporting needed operations in support of the opposition arising out of the stolen election last summer. It is difficult to understand what this administration does support, other than what might potentially be perceived as even a momentary political advantage for this president.

As in the past, events seem likely force the administration to eventually make choices between alternatives none of which will seem to serve such purposes.
