Disappointed White House Struggles to Explain Chicago's Defeat
Washington Post ^ | October 2, 2009 | Anne Kornblut

Posted on 10/02/2009 10:05:18 AM PDT by La Lydia

With the stunning news that Olympic officials had swiftly rejected Chicago as host the 2016 Olympics, despite a personal, last-minute appeal from President Obama, the White House was left Friday with the immediate and difficult challenge of explaining what happened. Did the president falter by making remarks that were emotional and personal, rather than giving specifics about his adopted home town? Is the defeat a sign that Obama's global popularity has begun to wane? White House advisers -- many of them Chicago natives, with a personal stake in the bid -- rushed into the back recesses of the West Wing to digest the outcome, and then emerged, looking glum, to comment.

"Obviously, it was disappointing," senior adviser David Axelrod said on CNN from the North Lawn of the White House... Axelrod blamed the internal machinations of the International Olympic Committee for the rejection. He argued that the bid by Madrid was led by a former president of the IOC, who was calling in years' worth of favors, and that Rio de Janeiro, trying to become the first South American host, had a strong case as well. The IOC ended up choosing Rio to host the 2016 Summer Games.

"I don't view this as a repudiation of the president or the first lady," he said. "I think there are politics everywhere, and there were politics inside that room..."

Looks like they all bought the “O” hype about how backward, arrogant, dismissive we are. He said that we are knuckle-scraping Neanderthals and loud-mouth jingoistic, genetic throwbacks, who are pathologically attached to our guns and bibles over here in this s&^% hole called ‘America.’

After all ... he DID do a world tour blathering on with JUST these preposterous and groveling toady lies to any one who would listen.

So now, whose fault is it if he did such a good job convincing them!!??

LOL. If true, that why did Madrid lose also?

Stop trying to make sense of it and get under the Obama / Axelrod bus. And move to the back - there's more coming.

My theroy is that they did have it before Obama and his Mrs showed up. We know what kind of gifts they give so I’m sure the IOC got something *interesting*.

I wonder what Rio will do about its eyesore teeming slums by 2016?

Well, at least Utah bribed the OIC members. Chicagoans probably shook down the OIC.

I can't imagine the Obama’s pity fest speech about poverty, blacks, crime, slums impressed the OIC members much.

I don't know how the other proposed locations compare; but I used to live by Chicago and the only summertime outdoor athletic event I could imagine participating in would be running from one air-conditioned environment to the next--and this should be attempted only when upwind to avoid ozone poisoning.

I’d imagine that many who shouldn’t be angered are very upset with Obama right now especially if he assured them that they had it in the bag!

re: Obama’s global popularity has begun to wane?

Talk is cheap. His popularity is very thin, wide but thin. Don't listen to what they say, watch what they do. That goes for the Olympic situation, Iran, etc.

If ever there was a case where the Emperor has no clothes, this is it.

I hope and pray that this is just beginning of a constant string of defeats for the O, the empty suit. So much so that impeachment/conviction after 2010 would be the only merciful thing offered to him.

And every democrat in this administration and this congress is prosecuted and stripped of any and all assets, retirement, or bank accounts to repay against the debt they have racked up. And that includes Soros.

May all bills enacted by this congress be repealed forthwith.

May the name Democrat be forever odious to the minds of Americans everywhere forever.

The local Chicago media is saying the same about Daley. That he has always been able to “control” the outcome of a vote in his favor before it is acted upon. (How’s that for being blatant about Chicago politics/government??) He could not exercise the same “control” over the IOC, and that it was a big step out of his comfort zone to even attempt the Olympic bid.

Doggone you is a poet and didn’t know it.

I’ll never understand, not if I live a hunnert more years, what on earth they were thinking sending the president over these to bid on the olympics. I was agreeing with the wise pundits right along...that for sure Obamer had this rapped up else he wouldn’t risk such humiliation.

Obviously it wasn’t wrapped up. Now Obamer has to face a humiliation beyond even what Bush ever faced.

Why on earth didn’t he just send Michelle Ma Belle? This is a job for a First Lady. Then, at defeat, well it might bring up a snicker but in the end it would just be a shrug.

But Obamer? Right when his health plan, Afghanistan....?

Didn’t Rahm threaten anyone with a dead fish?

I’m shocked. If he was going to put this much fanfare into the thing, you would think he had it sewn up before he got there. Either he thinks he is way more powerful than he really is or he is way more stupid than anyone thought he was.

Did he really make a speech that was all about him AGAIN?

Maybe they were afraid Obama would want to compete in all the events, since he's so great and all.

Axlerod's funny, but even he could only explain away Rio and Madrid -- what about Japan beating us as well?

That's funny, my first thought when I read that was that they ran into the back rooms to call their real estate brokers to dump all the property they have bought in anticipation of making a killing when the development started for the Olympics.

It IS all about him. It is also all about Michelle and all about Oprah. They don't get it. They don't even get that they don't get it. They believe their own press. I am beginning to think it is some kind of cultural/mindset thing that I don't get.

The big problemhere is that Obama, who has a narcistic personality disorder, will now have an even bigger dificulty operating, making decesions, or dealing with rejection. He may go into deep depression. Then what??

A good chief of staff would have duct-taped both POTUS and the First Lady to the floor, rather than let them run off on a goose chase like this one.

No one on the TOTUS-reader's staff or administration is "good." They don't make decisions, they just hold up mirrors and take orders from ayers and soros.

This is true for his staff, his cabinet (has there ever been a weaker SoS than clinton?), his appointees and his czars.

His ego is writing checks his butt can't cash.
