Buju Banton sings about shooting gays in the head and setting them on fire
A promoter for a Jamaican reggae star who sings about shooting gays in the head and setting them on fire finds it hard to understand why some gay groups are protesting the singers upcoming Miami concert.
Andrew Minott of Global Vybz Entertainment says that Buju Banton hasnt even sung the song Boom Bye Bye in years, so homosexuals should not be complaining, according to The Miami Herald.
However, a Youtube video reveals that Buju Banton sang it during a Miami concert in 2006.
Still, Minott claims that these lyrics are just part of dance hall culture and are not meant to be taken literally.
However, in 2004, Buju Banton was charged with allegedly beating six men believed to be gay after forcing entry into a house in Kingston. One of the victims lost an eye in the attack.
Charges were dropped against Buju Banton in 2006 for lack of evidence.
Then in 2007, it was believed that he signed the Reggae Compassionate Act, in which he pledged to stop singing hate songs against gays.
But then he later denied signing the statement, even though it was signed by a Mark Myrie, which is his legal name.
So now several gay groups are protesting his scheduled Halloween concert at the James L. Knight Center, which is owned by the City of Miami.
The groups believe he should not be allowed to perform in a city-owned venue. However, city officials say it is Buju Bantons First Amendment right to perform at the venue, just as the Cuban band Los Van Van was allowed to perform in the Miami Arena in 1999 amidst protests from the right-wing Cuban community.
That certain is a rather drastic way of dealing with the homosexuals.
I had a more humane way of dealing with the perverts who just won't shut up.
Devil's Island is for sale.
Minor quibble. "Ebonics" is slang term for a dialect most academics call "Black American English." Its root is the same as the word "ebony" (hence "black"). Eu- is the Greek root meaning "good" (i.e. Eugenics = "good genes"), so you basically called it "good language," which I would argue it certainly isn't...
I call eubonics.... BUbonics.. "Black linguistic death"..
Or more accurately ... Pigeon English...
Not exploding as much as you think. My liberal Jamaican cousins have petitions on their Facebook pages, supporting this guy, and asking that his concert not be cancelled.
“Forward and fiaca
Menacle and den gosaca.
Stop that train I want to get on”
“Then in 2007, it was believed that he signed the Reggae Compassionate Act”
The Reggae Compassionate Act? Sounds like something Barney Frank or Henry Waxman would slip in as an amendment to the Federal “Hate Crimes” bill.
America, ya got to love it.
Gangbanger hip hop thugs can talk about busting caps
on cops and whores but let some one talk about
doing it to gays and woe is me, something needs
to be done!!!
