Verdict on judge: He’s a lefty hack
By Howie Carr | Sunday, September 27, 2009 | http://www.bostonherald.com | Columnists

Who is Judge Thomas Connolly?

And why did this 66-year-old hack Democrat rule Friday that his fellow hack Democrat, Gov. Deval Patrick, had the right to appoint a third hack Democrat to the U.S. Senate immediately, despite a vote to the contrary by the overwhelmingly hack-Democrat Legislature?

Try not to let what I am about to tell you destroy your faith in the integrity of the Massachusetts judiciary.

This Connolly spent five years in the early 1960s at St. John’s Seminary (more on that later) and then went to BC Law. He got his robes in 1990 the old-fashioned way - after donating thousands of dollars to all the right, i.e., Democrat, politicians. The Dukakis for President Committee cashed a $1,000 check from Connolly in 1987. The next year, the future judge wisely coughed up another grand to the Duke’s “Victory Fund 88.”

The Duke lost, but Connolly won - and is winning still, with his $129,694-a-year no-heavy-lifting job, behind which in three years comes the $125,000 pension.

This future enabler of sordid Democrat machinations did what almost all future judges do, duking cash to all the connected Democrats. Whitey Bulger’s brother Billy collected $200 a year. The late Speaker George Keverian (D-Papa Gino’s) was taken care of, as were such contemptible layabouts as ex-Boston city councilor Rosaria “Sister Sunshine” Salerno, Bulger stooge Gerry D’Amico, Tom Reilly, Evelyn Murphy, etc., etc.

Connolly gave money to Sheriff Bob Rufo, who is himself a judge, and Sen. Mike Creedon, who is ditto, after giving his Senate seat to his brother, who is now a clerk, and did I mention that Bob’s wife is a state rep - a Democrat, naturally, like every one of the above.

In 1989, Dukakis announced he wasn’t running again, and Frank Bellotti became the favorite to succeed him as the guy who appointed judges. Suddenly the future Judge Connolly was funneling cash to Bellotti. In 1989 he gave him $200, then $500, then another $125. In 1990, Bellotti collected another $1,000 from the future judge.

But the Duke did the right thing to his maxed-out contributor, and appointed Connolly. At his confirmation hearing, his witnesses included then-Norfolk DA (and now rabid congressional supporter of Hugo Chavez and ACORN) Bill Delahunt. It was the least Bill could do, considering Connolly had just sent him a check for $1,000.

Remember how much Connolly liked to give things to ex- and future AG’s? Well, in 1994 he took the rare step of handing a directed verdict of not guilty to still another ex-AG, Eddie McCormack, who’d been indicted by then-AG L. Scott Harshbarger, to whom Connolly had given $1,000 in 1987.

Back to St. John’s Seminary in Brighton, where Connolly picked up his B.A. in 1964, then spent another year studying theology. Most of the worst pervert priests in the archdiocese attended St. John’s during those same years. In 2002, one of them, the Rev. Jon C. Martin, found himself in court, charged with negligence, in front of his fellow St. John’s alum-turned-judge.

A columnist for the Globe - yes, the Globe - demanded Connolly recuse himself from his schoolmate’s trial “not because Connolly is certain to side with a fellow seminarian but because those who rely on the court for fairness are uncertain that he won’t.”

Hmmm. Couldn’t the Republicans have made the same argument Friday, substituting the word “Democrat” for “seminarian.”

In 2006, a lesbian couple from Rhode Island asked the Democrat seminarian to rule they had been legally married here in Massachusetts, even though our state law prohibited anyone from getting married here if their marriage wouldn’t have been allowed back home.

The St. John’s alum issued a novel ruling in favor of the pair, saying that since gay marriage was not specifically outlawed in Rhode Island, hey, it must be OK, right? Mitt Romney demanded the absurd ruling be appealed. But AG Tom Reilly as usual declined to do anything. After all, Connolly gave him $1,000 in both 1989 and 1990.

So now you know - this is the bum who effectively put the executor of Ted Kennedy’s estate into his master’s Senate seat. Just another day here in the Banana Republic of Massachusetts.

The funniest part was when this corrupt hack, Judge Thomas Connolly, sent word that his “ruling” would be announced at noon, as if he needed time to “deliberate”. LOL, his clerks must have really been scrambling to come up with some semi-coherent “explanation” on paper for this “ruling”.

in the Banana Republic of Massachusetts

I still say "banana republic" would be a step up -- after all, doesn't the typical banana republic routinely have a coup every couple of years?

About 6:35 or so he started to read the Globe story and he took a few calls about it though he also did another topic. As soon as the jokes started to come about the big shoe or fried clams he said, “I knew it—this is why I waited till now to talk about it. Now there will be a bunch of calls on the Chump Line tomorrow about it.”

Readers of the Globe’s site and people on Free Republic were aware of the situation before Howie’s show. Howie explained that it was probably bald tires and a slick road that caused it. He noted that the Globe reporter had
asked if alcohol was involved “and I bet they were disappointed it wasn’t”. When someone brought up fried
clams he said, “it was 8:30 on a Sunday morning, who’s eating fried clams then?” The bit about the “marked
lanes violation: ‘it was a warning,’ says Howie.

Howie’s Acura will be in the shop for a couple weeks; as I noted; Howie Carr is fine, Howie’s car...not so fine.

Howie Carr uninjured in one-car crash
By Jessica Heslam | Tuesday, September 29, 2009 | http://www.bostonherald.com | Local Coverage

Herald columnist Howie Carr was heading home from the newspaper Sunday morning when his sport-utility vehicle slid across the road and slammed into a telephone pole in his hometown of Wellesley.

“I’m fine. Nothing happened to me,” Carr said yesterday. “I just slid over the center lane. It was raining, it was windy, and I was going down a hill.”

“I tried to pull out, I couldn’t and I hit the pole,” said Carr, who was driving a 2004 Acura SUV. “I’m definitely buying new tires for it.”

Police gave him a written warning for a marked lanes violation.

Carr, also a WRKO (680-AM) talk host, said he was on way his home from the Herald newsroom, where he’d picked up his mail.

Police said Carr was driving south on Wellesley Avenue just before 8:30 a.m. when he crossed into the northbound lane, struck a curb and hit the utility pole.

Carr declined medical treatment, and his vehicle was towed.

Howie talks with Joe Kennedy today—the OTHER Joe Kennedy.
Tue show ping

1st Hour
Roman Polanski, the Oscar-winning movie director arrested in Switzerland as a fugitive from American justice, filed an application Tuesday with a Swiss court seeking his release, news reports said. The United States has been seeking his extradition for having sex with a 13-year-old girl in 1977, but the sudden move by Swiss authorities to arrest Mr. Polanski when he arrived in Zurich to collect a film-making award on Saturday has roused diplomats, offended supporters of the filmmaker and left more than a few onlookers asking themselves the same question: Why now? SHould Polanski have to face the music for a 30 year old crime?

2nd Hour

3rd Hour

Joseph L. Kennedy, 37, of Dedham, a member of the National Libertarian Party collecting signatures to run as an independent, has established a Web site: JoeKennedyforSenate.com. He is not to be confused with Joseph P. Kennedy II, 57, whose decision not to run for his late uncle Edward M. Kennedy’s Senate seat left the famous family’s faithful wistful. We will speak to Mr. Kennedy about his run.

We will be joined by gubanatorial candidate State Treasurer Tim Cahill for a low down on the state of the state.

Superhack Paul Kujawski posing as Dem dolt fooled us all
By Howie Carr | Wednesday, September 30, 2009 | http://www.bostonherald.com | Columnists

Let’s just waive the five-year waiting period right now and induct Rep. Paul “Kujo” Kujawski of Webster directly into the Hack Hall of Fame.

All these years, we’ve considered him a mere drunken Democrat dolt, below average even by the below-average standards of the Massachusetts General Court.

Now it turns out his persona as a stumbling boob was just a clever disguise. As mild-mannered Clark Kent was in fact Superman, Kujo, it turns out, is Superhack.

He was a double agent on the pension-reform committee, scheming how to double his kiss in the mail, from $16,200 to close to $34,000. As he sat slack-jawed in the committee meetings, no one suspected a thing.

Do you have any idea how much Budweiser you can buy with an extra $18,000?

And all this extra do-re-mi for his 18 years on the Webster School Committee - a non-paying job, and you can bet that Kujo was worth every penny of it.

Kujo is not the first rep to pull this greedy stunt. Ex-Sen. Jack Brennan of Malden did it with his “service” as a library trustee, but Brennan was finally shamed into giving up the extra dough.

In Kujo’s case, shame is not an option. He has none. He is, after all, the solon who was once busted for open and gross lewdness after allegedly urinating in front of a state trooper. That was the same night he suffered amnesia in the back of the state police cruiser, shouting at the cops, “Do you know who I am?”

Yes, they replied, we know who you are, Rep, and we know what you are, which is under arrest.

I’ve always chuckled over Kujo’s moronic stunts, ever since the time he told me, “I’m not like you guys from Boston. When I came down here I thought everybody was my friend.”

I thought about telling Kujo I used to live even further out west than he did, but why confuse him further? Remember when he left the satchel of cash and checks under the barstool at the 21st Amendment across Bowdoin Street from the State House? And how about all the Ethics Committee fines?

But as I look back on it now, somehow Kujo always skated. His hack brother Jan was going to lose his job at the ABCC. So suddenly Felon Finneran took the ABCC away from then-Gov. Mitt Romney. Last year “special investigator” Jan made $111,283.66 - isn’t overtime wonderful?

Then there was Kujo’s son Jonathan. First he was a summer tolltaker at the Pike, and then he scored a $35,713-a-year job at the Division of Industrial Accidents. Another nationwide search!

And all the while Kujo was lurking around the entrance to the Great Hall, circling like a seagull, waiting for the next free buffet. Some said he was the state rep from Commerce Insurance, I always considered him the man from Ringling Bros., Barnum & Bailey, sans makeup.

And now we find out Kujo has doubled his pension, right under our very noses.

It just goes to show you can’t judge a book by its cover, even if it’s a comic book.

No, but Susan Atkins did a few days ago. Somebody did pick her in the last death pool, unless Howie had another death pool done since then. I also don’t remember anybody picking Dennis Hopper in the last Death Pool that I listened to.
