Palin’s Advocacy: The Turning Point in Health Care Reform Debate
Pajamas Media ^ | Sept. 18, 2009 | Mark Impomeni

Posted on 09/19/2009 10:41:08 AM PDT by Al B.

For an uneducated, unsophisticated rube and former governor from a backwater state, Sarah Palin sure can drive a debate. With prospects for passage of his sweeping overhaul of the American health care delivery system fading with every speech, President Barack Obama is making it increasingly clear that Palin will be recognized, for good or ill, as perhaps the most prominent single political figure responsible for stopping it in its tracks.

It’s a remarkable story. A failed vice-presidential candidate and resigned governor — unfairly viewed by many as a cruel joke – reached from beyond the political grave her elitist critics prematurely dug for her and her political future to thwart a popular president prematurely regarded by the same elite that shunned her as perhaps the most gifted politician this nation has ever produced. If Sarah Palin were a sitting governor, a failed presidential candidate, or even a state legislator, her influence in the health care debate would not be as unexpected. It is the fact that she is a private citizen, completely out of politics save for a small political action committee, that makes this story unique.

How did she do it? That’s where the story gets even more remarkable.

There were no public appearances or speeches, no glitzy ad campaigns, no publicity tours, no interviews in the mainstream press or any new media outlet. Sarah Plain killed health care reform with a posting on her Facebook page, an op-ed in the Wall Street Journal, and an exquisite sense of timing.

Personally my choice for the person who stopped Obamacare dead in its tracks is none other than Cong Joe Willson who fired the shot heard round the world with his “You LIE!” during Obama’s Joint Session speech.

Since that shout, Baucus has submitted his healthcare plan with ZERO sponsors and ZERO supporters. The House Bill has shown that Obama lied and for the first time even some of the MSM is questioning the cost of the bill.

Without Cong Joe Wilson, not sure where we would be right now.

There are many people fighting the fight in DC in the Congress but Joe Wilson’s comment showed the light of day on the lies of Obama on Obamacare. For that I will always be grateful to Cong Joe Wilson of South Carolina.

How about King Cong?

Not bad for a little, backwoods girl who went to a little college located near the Washington/Idaho border.

It just goes to show that many of us in fly-over country who didn't go the high-flauting, Eastern, elitest colleges have a brain, as well. And, we know how to use them without being mind-numbed robots espousing Marxist rhetoric.

No question Joe Wilson has been a very important cog in stopping this socialism.

However, it was Sarah who fired the first shot that put OBOZO on the defense when he began defending/denying the "death care" aspect.

Others have joined Sarah in standing up including Wilson and hopefully more will stand up to this tyranny.

That’s a good one!

Who would have thought standing up and shouting two words could mean so much.

I guess I remain too damn stupid to see that Sarah Palin is not “ready” for the national stage, that she lacks “experience” and requires “much more seasoning”.

As the author says, she has been instrumental in short-circuiting the Marxist plan to nationalize 1/6 of the American economy, all from a lowly FaceBook page.

I think that she is in the frotress of solitude in AK and is doing what musicians used to call “woodshedding” for the next race...she’ll be ready...

Anyone who has been paying attention knows the plan was DOA before that speech.

Everything that has taken place in opposition LONG BEFORE is what emboldened Joe Wilson's "you lie" comment...Otherwise he would probably have been doing standing O's with the rest of those nitwits for O...Even his wife was shocked it was him.

God bless Sarah Palin.

I would agree except that Joe Wilson immediately flinched, largely due to pressure from his own party! Sarah Palin did not flinch, equivocate or apologize for speaking/typing the "truth to power!"

Joe is to be congratulated, however, for his brevity and remaining steadfast since his presurized by "leaders" flinching!!!

Joe Wilson was the arrival of French forces.
Sarah Palin was Washington crossing the Delaware and all the other battles.
Jim DeMint, however, was the shot heard 'round the world. It was his "Waterloo" comment that first knocked Obama back on his heels.

Compared to the “experienced” professional politician detritus that infests the Beltway, the real-world, genuine, solidly-based, Sarah was ready in Junior High School.

But Sarah was one of the very few, if not only at the time, to show Republicans that they can stand up to 0. At the time, 0 and the rats were driving the debate, and the Rinos would have buckled under the ‘bipartisanship’ pressure to pass something. Since then, people have been assailing all politicians regarding healthcare, bringing up “death panels” at almost every turn.

Wilson apologized only for breaking the “decorum” of Congress (which is the equivalent of cracking a joke in church). He did not back down from his main point that Obamacare would give illegals healthcare and basically told Pelosi to shove it.

Without Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck and Sarah Palin Joe Wilson would not have a platform now, he would have been only a blip on the radar screen and subject to ostracism even by his own party.

But ultimately, it goes back to Rush as everything in the American conservative movement does. Without Rush Limbaugh there would be no Glenn Beck and no Sarah Palin. Rush legitimizes everything that Beck and Palin talk about.

“Sarah was ready in Junior High School.”

Maybe. But she needed to do more studying on international matters...look what has happened with inexperienced Presidents like Clinton Bush ll and this Mutt in the White House...they have all been pretty badly rolled...we haven’t had a real Internationally aware President since Reagan...this isn’t about her electability, IMO, but about preparedness...put together with her natural abilities, she could easily become even more of power...I am a hugh fan...and I’m series...

OK, OK, I’ve read all the comments posted down to Rush Limbaugh began the whole thing - and I can only add, this: The conservative and patriotic citizens of this country have awakened. It took a long time for them to really get aroused enough to begin shouting, matching, fighting, etc.

The personality of conservatives, i.e. traditional Americans, is to be a bit passive because we are busy with our everyday lives - working, raising children, going to church and supporting charities, etc.. It takes something BIG to finally raise the temper of so many ordinary citizen to finally get them out to these tea parties. We are living in dangerous times. The non-cable news channels are all in the liberal camp, and as such are working overtime to prevent the ordinary folks in fly-over-land from becoming aware of the socialist policies and the corruption of the current leaders in power at the WH, the US Senate, and the US House.

We need support ALL of the Conservative folks who are helping us and affirming us, not try to determine who’s the best. God has raised up champions for us with each of them performing a certain role in this fight.

I expect that in the next few months the radical leftists will begin trying to shut down Fox News and the conservative radio stations that do not have liberal hosts as well.

We are facing a roaring lion who is now being challenged, and he thinks he is being forced into a corner. He will strike back with force. May God help us to persevere in this fight against these forces of evil.

Just my 2 cents worth.

I think the turning-point came when Congress adjourned for August. Obama, despite all his magic, was never going to convince people that government-run healthcare was going to cut costs. They had an opportunity to rush it through before the public backlashed, but as soon as the angry old people showed up at the townhalls, it was over. Palin was surprisingly successful, but she was icing on the cake.

I find it surprising that nobody on the thread acknowledged that it was the tremendous outpouring of passionate dissent from the average American citizens at town hall meetings across the country that really stunned the politicians. Those meetings were standing room only before anyone made any noteworthy comments at all.

Having said that, I appreciate the comments made by DeMint, Palin and Wilson. They fueled the already burning flame to burn even brighter.
