My thought too; I'm an American member of a German-dominated committee and I see how they think. Germany may look pacifist today, but if Al-Qaeda picks a fight with Germany A-Q has NO idea what will be coming down their throat in short order -- and I can assure you it won't be pretty for A-Q.
The Germans will do what Obama does not have either the courage or inclination to do.
IMHO in some ways they've "gone soft" -- that's where the market is, after all, but my sense is that they're not laid all the arms down forever. Your comments requested.

I agree. I interacted with quite a few of my Bundeswehr counterparts when I was assigned at USEUCOM in Stuttgart. The Germans may have current constitutional requirements that call for pacifism, but that doesn’t speak to what will happen to those who directly pick a fight with them. I, too, believe the terrorists will not know what hit them if they pull a 9-11 on the Germans. I won’t believe for one minute they wouldn’t defend their homeland.
