Toomey calls Obama speech 'inspiring'
Politico ^ | September 8, 2009 | Josh Kraushaar

Posted on 09/08/2009 12:29:30 PM PDT by Lou Budvis

In his past incarnation as the president of the conservative Club for Growth, Pat Toomey would have been hard-pressed to praise any speech from President Obama – no less one that’s been maligned by conservative activists.

But as he seeks to win over independents and moderates in his Pennsylvania Senate campaign, Toomey is taking a markedly different approach: Even as conservative critics accused the president of trying to indoctrinate students with a back-to-school speech, Toomey called the president’s speech to high school students “inspiring” and “moving.”

Please, correct me if I am wrong.

Wasn’t it this group that was caught charging money for being for or against certain public policy and officials?

I liked the part where Obama pulled out his birth certificate and showed the kids...

We made him back off, and that’s inspiring.

Absolutely. It was nice speech and I think Toomey & Limbaugh are being deviously smart here. We can totally freak out the media & his rad-left supporters here, by very heartily & very publicly welcoming Barack Obama to "our side".

It'd sure be fun to see how well his base support manages to hold up under a barrage of love bombs from the right! LOL!

Why Liberals can hammer Conservatives relentlessly and win elections and conservatives feel they have to play nice to win elections is beyond me.

It was, without question, one of the most disingenuous speeches Obama has made. In addition, it was an outright lie. He believes absolutely nothing he said. It was a deceptive and dishonest presentation. Anyone who is willing to praise that talk is either an idiot or is trying to make ‘brownie points’ with someone for some reason. It was a disgusting moment in our time.

Did that part start with him tearing open a Cracker Jack box and rooting around for the surprise?

I won’t vote for Toomey, Sestak of Sphincter. I’ll be throwing away my vote on a third party or writing in someone.

....I do think it would be basically viewed as inspiration speech and to lambaste it would be for Toomey to put himself in front of a train of criticism that would definitely not be worth it.

Why not just say nothing?

Josh is such a liar. He knows that we were protesting the entire event, and that we had never even SEEN the speech.

And he knows that, once the speech was published, many conservatives, even those who objected to the event, were saying that Obama had responded to the concerns and had written a much better speech than the one he clearly meant to give to go with the absurd Education Department “lesson plan”.

A young middle schooler who heard the speech made an interesting comment.

She thought it would be best if students got to hear the speech in person rather than have their parents opinion of Obama.

It was about indoctrination and this black student knew it!!

Well I’ll not argue with you on that.

Like other commenters have stated, he’s probably trying to woo over a few “moderates” by looking all noble about the speech.

One never knows with moderates, basically a person with no ability to take a firm position by my definition. Most anything might push them one way or the other.

By me I’d have said nothing. Why encourage this would-be dictator...er Dear Leader?
