There was nothing particularly egregious going on in the meeting, but this article is such a fun read because of the author’s exploits - and for how the elites reacted when they found out he was poking around.

The most open and transparent administration ever -
what a complete load of bull.
Time to stick a fork in them, they are overdone.

“Canipe said that The Rhinoceros Times was apparently not on Miller’s press list,”

I’ve just been appointed on the municipal arts commission in my town and during our orientation meeting it was drummed into us the seriousness of the open meeting law....These people have no respect for anything.

Perhaps, because they knew you were there they had a

Good story... and you know what? This is pretty much the first time I’ve read anyone from the media actually doing some reporting... instead of regurgitating the NYT...

The best plan I could come up with was to mumble my name and occupation so badly as for it to be unrecognizable and then hope no one in the room was rude enough to ask me to repeat what I had just said. "John Cocktoasten"

A notice goes out, describing the time, place and nature of the function, and the last line reads, "A majority of the Board of Commissioners may be in attendance at this event." That's neat.

“We even invite the press to our fundraisers,”
Sometimes the press even HOSTS democrat fundraisers - eg. Dan Rather.

For those not in the know, the Rhino Times is the Greensboro-Area paper. It has a very conservative bent. I love it.
It's also not afraid to ask inconvenient questions, and usually scoops the other local rags because of that.
It's online, www.rhinotimes.com. Worth a look.

In Texas, you can go to jail (and some public officials have) for violating the open meetings laws. We advise the cities we represent to OVER-advertise meetings at which more than 2 city council members will be present.

We can’t get the Rhino Times at the Mecklenburg County libraries any more. I guess they reported too much wastage in the library system!
