I am a teacher and the past few days have been interesting. My colleagues seem pretty surprised about the latest controversy and the whole district has acted. First we aren’t showing it Tuesday...We’re not allowed to. It will be recorded and the powers that be will review it. The present plan is that the kids won’t see it until Thursday. Those who want can opt out.
Some in our Social Studies Dept. are amused by the whole thing because...well...they teach SOCIAL STUDIES and of all classes it seems strange that this is one venue where they can’t talk about the president’s speech... until Thursday.
Having lived on the front line for 15 years, I don’t think any of you need to worry about the teachers. You will find few of us who want to “indoctrinate” anyone.
Although I’m sure there are some real winners out there.
The President will say what he will and if he says anything out of line, certainly, there will be hell to pay. With all the controversy, it is doubtful that he will say anything beyond, “Do good in school and graduate.”
Meanwhile, as we stew over a speech, legislation continues to discredit good teachers and screw up our public school system.
Our local superintendent said they had - and I quote - "zillions of calls" from concerned parents. :D
