Freedom could file bankruptcy this week - source
* Freedom has reached agreements with lenders - report (Recasts; adds new sourcing)
PHILADELPHIA, Aug 30 (Reuters) - Freedom Communications Inc, owner of the Orange County Register newspaper, is expected to file for bankruptcy this week, a source familiar with the situation said on Sunday.
Freedom, which has been majority owned for more than 70 years by the Hoiles family, has reached agreements with its lenders to restructure its debts, according to a report in the online edition of The Wall Street Journal. The lenders include JPMorgan Chase (JPM.N), SunTrust and Union Bank of California.
Freedom, which owns of more than 30 other daily newspapers and eight television stations, will continue to operate under bankruptcy protection, the Journal said.

fyi
Well since the Recession is over, these journalists shall have no problem finding “shovel ready” jobs. :)
What is the content of the paper like? Local TV stations are almost as bad as owning a newspaper.
Good Editorial section on Sundays;
Lots of Big Home Ads and Car Ad's...
hhhmmmmmm
Its just like a liberal daily but with conservative editorials and many conservative columns
isn’t this a top 10 circulation paper???
um, Freedom is Libertarian in philosophy and many are pretty conservative....I work at one (for now).
No kidding.
A real news article in the last day or so.
Pity. Sanest paper in California. Sure, they reprint a lot of wire stuff with the usual leftish MSM perspective. But their editorials, columnists and endorsements are as good as it gets in Kalifornistan. I hope they can reorganize successfully and quickly.
I think the Editorial page still reflects that....not the rest of the paper.
Oh well, maybe the rag here ran top 20 or something
hhhmmmm.... that says 329, #27 if we don’t count the WSJ and USAToday.
Interesting
I think they use to have a chain of small weeklies and twicer-weeklies that were conservative. I don’t know what happened to them.
They run a lot of open borders propaganda. From Friday:

And a few of their regular columnists are consistently awful:
# Yvette Cabrera: “Desperation is setting in” for OC’s neediest
# Yvette Cabrera: Is hate on the rise in O.C.?
# Yvette Cabrera: Illegal and smart? Education can continue
# Yvette Cabrera: Not illegal, just a human being
# Yvette Cabrera: Obama’s words resonate, give hope
OC Register is a good paper. Like virtually all media companies dominated by print media, they are going to have to figure out a workable business model. Not sure what that will be.
The Orange County Register ping!
Freedom Communications Inc. owns 32 daily and 77 weekly newspapers, including The Monitor, The Valley Morning Star, The Brownsville Herald, and the The Mid Valley Town Crier, in South Texas.
Two Sundays ago, the OC Register ripped HR3200 to shreds. Any Congressperson from Orange County who votes for HR3200 should be crucified.
