You make some good points and perhaps I let my passion run away a bit. However, to be clear I never advocated a public display of the torture. In no way would I want to feed into that dark part of our society. I did advocate a forced viewing by convicted sex offenders to obtain some deterrence affect. Also, another real problem with my proposed punishment is who would actually deal out such a punishment. Anyone who would want to, shouldn’t. And dealing out such a punishment would damage anyone who wouldn’t want to do it. But passion and fantasy can ignore real world problems.
Just because I did not mention capital punishment for murderers does not mean I am not outraged by the unpunished killers in our midst. Anyone who intentionally murders someone should be executed. Especially if their victim was a child, elderly, weak or trusted the murderer. Your bringing in the abortion doctors into the argument is unfair as well. Our law says abortion is legal. My passion needs to be directed at changing that law first.
But I like your compromise. I will gladly accept a certain, swift capital punishment for those crimes society considers vile. And I would advocate kidnapping as one of those crimes (and I am not including child custody fight type offenses in that category).
About 30 years ago I had a 10 minute conversation with a man whose 6 year old daughter had disappeared about 10 years earlier. Hearing about the pain, depression, family destruction, not knowing, etc. just shook me to the core. The guy was still looking for her. He was bordering on maddness. Just walking in his shoes for those 10 minutes changed me. Anytime I imagine any of the children of family or friends being taken by someone, I just get sick to my stomach. So many potentially great lives are forever impacted by the evil acts of one or two people.
Someone on one of these threads pointed out that crimes like this were Capital Crimes until the 60’s. Now only murder is.
