TACOMA PRODUCTION MOVES TO SA TOYOTA PLANT
It will mean 1,000 new Toyota jobs.

Toyota Motor Manufacturing of Texas announced Thursday night that Toyota is relocating its Tacoma mid sized pickup truck production form Fremont California to San Antonio, and is expected to make a $100 million investment in the plant on the city's south side, 1200 WOAI news reports.
"Here in Texas, the addition of the Tacoma to the Tundra production line will better utilize our plant's capacity and the 21 supplier facilities on our site," TMMTX President Kenji Fukuta said.
"This will require new jobs at our plant to handle the additional production, and on-site suppliers will also be adding new jobs, but it is too soon to give an estimate."
Bexar County Judge Nelson Wolff said the move will mean about 1,000 new jobs at Toyota itself, with additional new jobs at suppliers which ring the plant. Toyota said its too early to tell the size of the investment or the number of new jobs it will create.
The south side Toyota plant, which opened in 2007, turns out the full sized Tundra pickup truck, but Tundra sales have been down sharply since last summer's spike in gasoline prices, raising questions about the viability of the plant as a stand alone producer of Tundras alone.
"This announcement reflects the depth of the ties between Toyota and Texas while underscoring the strength of our state's workforce and job climate," Governor Rick Perry said.
Bexar County Judge Nelson Wolff said he expects Toyota will produce 100,000 Tacomas in San Antonio. The NUMMI production line currently turns out about 160,000 of the trucks per year. He says he does not expect today’s announcement will have any impact on a plant in Mexico which also turns out the trucks.
“What we have done on the incentive package, as that we put together is no different from what we would give to any other company that came here,” Wolff said.
“They haven’t stated exactly the investment or the number of jobs, but the investment package will be tied to that.
Toyota announced earlier today that it was shutting down it's New United Motor Manufacturing Incorporated facility in northern California, after General Motors pulled out of the partnership with Toyota as part of it's bankruptcy filing.
“I understand that the time line for their facility in California goes through March of next year,” San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro said.
Ironically, Castro is a graduate of Stanford University, which is not far from the NUMMI facility.
“We are very pleased with this decision,” Castro said.
“We know that San Antonio is the right place for this investment.”
The plant builds the Tacoma as well as the Corolla passenger car.
Officials indicated that Tacoma production will begin in San Antonio next spring, with full production expected by the summertime.
To add to that, a story came out in the houston comical that Boeing is looking to put in a production line for the new 787 airliner in San Antonio. SA is about to boom over the next couple of years. Say what you will about governer good hair, but the proof in in the pudding. Our state is growing despite the intentional economic destruction being driven by the dimrat party.
so, the transportation corridor opened up northward via rail and Highway will be a big part in nationwide distribution capability.

It’s pretty sad when you need to know spanish to get a job, as was the case with my daughter who is attending college in Texas. She actually had to come here to NY, get hired by Penny’s and then transfer. True story.
If you do everything you can to crush business, large and small, you will not create jobs. Period!
I know maybe 5 Spanish words, and none of my kids know any Spanish.
I have one granddaughter who is proficient in Spanish--but she went to Spain to learn it.
We have lived here very comfortably--my husband had a very successful career (he's an Okie, and he didn't have to learn Spanish to move here.)
I guess I will be the one to say it first-—I’m already sick of Californians moving to Texas! I wouldn’t mind it at all if they would appreciate what we have here—but they want things just like they were back home. They are trying to turn this state blue!

Oh, OK. I just heard them talk about the San Francisco plant and it’s 4500 employees and how it was San Francisco’s largest employer.
Fremont seemed like a poor location considering the location of most parts facilities are in the central US.
I agree with you on that but they are already telling the folks here in San Antonio that a new phone number will be in place by tomorrow to call and set up your interview like they did when the plant opened. So, just like last time, the bulk of the hires are going to be from in and around San Antonio and I don’t think we are going to get a whole boat load of Cali’s coming this way, Thank Goodness!
California will just raise taxes to comphensate for the loss of the Toyota plant. Its libtards answer to everything.

I just watched the Gangland show on History about the Tango Bravo gang in Houston and it sounds like they have a problem there. It’s another hispanic gang, btw. I moved from San Antonio four years ago and I wouldn’t mind going back now that I’m married, but I’m also not sure that I’d want to raise our kids in south Texas with the demographic shift that is taking place. (crime, culture reasons).
