car dealers...government...is it too early to consider this validation of the ‘no honor among thieves’ cliche?

But we need to trust these guys on a whole new health care program when they can’t run a single easy rebate program for cars.

If this is the administration’s definition of a “wildly successful” program, I’d love to see what they consider a failure.

As is generally the case the first concern of government is to prohibit fraud in payments.

That's true irrespective of the program or the amount of money.

This is just one of the reasons the government as an institution should never be used to "stimulate the economy".

Cutting tax rates is far better, works faster, and fraud is between the taxpayer and the highly trained tax auditors who are prepared to deal with it.

A patient who owns a car lot that came to my Wife’s office said she has received no money from the Fed, and until they do, none of the clunkers on her lot will be destroyed. They have them sitting in a closed off lot and will do nothing with them until they have money in hand. She also said the clunker destruction videos you have all seen are just for show, and that few dealers she knows have destroyed anything.

I have no sympathy for car dealers who were complicit with the government in looting billions to buys cars for some at the expense of the rest of us. And destroying good machinery to boot.

If this is the administration’s definition of a “wildly successful” program, I’d love to see what they consider a failure.

Liberalism/feel-good-about-intentions = Wildy Successful.
Conservatism/anything that yields results = Horrible Failure.

Well, according to our current geniuses in government, "capitalism" has been a failure.

So, in the interest of correcting a terribly flawed system, Obama's minions have decided that we need to take $3 billion in taxpayer money to get people to turn in perfectly good cars they already own, in order to incur personal debt buying new cars they didn't need, and then destroy the old cars so that their value utterly ceases to exist.

Thank God we're giving up that awful capitalism, huh?

there’s a train wreck a comin’....pretty soon these dealers won’t be able to carry all of the $4500 discounts they gave and will have to go after the car buyers to pay them the difference now. Many who won’t or can’t will have to return their new cars....only they won’t be able to have their old one back because the engine has been destroyed per Obama’s directive. So thousands of people may lose their wheels and have to go actually BUY another clunker (which will cost 30% more, thanks to this program) and the dealers will be stuck with thousands of “gently used” automobiles. This one is gonna be SOOOOO much fun to watch!
