Never.
Enough scary details get bandied about and the Rats will be sent packing home and the program get virtually amended out of existence.
The current plan, HR 3200 envisions a five year phased in implementation program. If, and it is a big if, the Reps can gain control of the House, then they can throw a monkey wrench into the implementation process. Welfare reform helped roll back some of these socialist programs, but it will be difficult.
Yep, the folks here cheering for this to pass so it can be stuck on the Dems are missing the point completely. Once it’s in, this monstrosity will never be unloaded short of a complete government breakdown (which may be coming soon enough). The only ones who will truly suffer is the American people, so please quit thinking about the party calculus.
There’a a first time for everything. Most entitlements were created in the B.R. (Before Rush) Era, when the people were less informed than today.
Never say never...FRiend.
It will happen when the system fails...
of course we will have bigger issues at that point
If the 2010 Republicans run on “elect us, and we’ll repeal all of this mess” — a la Gingrich of 1994 — they will have a winning issue.
Most likely going forward, and certainly historically, you are correct. Not only that, but a Repub/Conservative POTUS elected in 2012 would then be demonized for 'ruining health care, killing old people, cutting off medicine to poor people' etc even if this passes now and stays in place.
We must kill this thing before it makes landfall.
So true. If the Dems pass Obamacare, that is a permanent victory for them. An entitlement is forever, and an entitlement of that magnitude will change this country--for the worse--forever.
