ATF Raids Wallingford Mobile Home

WALLINGFORD - A usually quiet mobile home park was shaken Friday morning when about 15 officers from the U.S. bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and local police descended on one of their neighbor's homes with force.

"They had their guns drawn and were surrounding the house," said Jennifer Monroe

Lynne Boynton, of 15 Hosford Bridge Road, went to her husband's truck for coffee money at about 6 a.m. and was pushed to the driveway and handcuffed with an officer's knee in her back and a gun to her head.

ATF officers surrounded her father-in-law's home at Western Sands Mobile Home Park and used a battering ram to enter the unlocked home in the rear, Boynton said.

"They were pouring out of there like crazy," said Monroe, who can easily see the front door. "They had Lynne in handcuffs. We were like 'What are they looking for?' "

Once inside, officers pulled Gilman Boynton and Paul Boynton out of bed, the men said. Paul Boynton said three or four officers threw him to the floor and put a gun to his head. Gilman Boynton, 76, who suffers from a heart condition, was made to sit in the living room, he said.

"Don't I have any rights?" a visibly shaken Gilman Boynton said. "I've been living here for over 40 years. The police have been here and seen my guns."

The family was told by ATF officers that the agency received a tip six weeks ago that a convicted felon was living at the home and had access to guns, Lynne Boynton said. Paul Boynton was arrested 34 years ago at the age of 17 with a friend who had forged a check. He hasn't been arrested since, he said.

Gilman Boynton is a gun collector, who keeps his rifles

Kinda like that, yeah. ‘Cept any support for a decent human who might also be a local (city or county) democrat translate into support for the evil at higher levels of office (state and fed). Ain’t a chance of me going there.

Yes, it is CT. I just added that to the topics list. I used to live in this town...this is truly scary!!! Actually, the Wallingford Police dept is pretty pro-gun. I used to shoot and hunt with the (now deceased) Deputy Chief of police.

well, do we support felons having access to guns or don't we? can't have it both ways.

i do, however, believe the raid might have been a bit much. a couple agents in suits knocking on the door might have been sufficient.

“someone screwed up big time......”

No, that is exactly the kind of Nazi filth they are.

Each and every employee of the BATF should be stripped of his citizenship and expelled from the country.

“well, do we support felons having access to guns or don’t we? can’t have it both ways.”

Certainly you can. You can get people with a judicial temperament to examine cases on their individual merits and determine if there are grounds to deprive the person in question of his God-given right to self defense.

well why don't we just go one step further?

how about we do it your way for a couple years. then, in cases where judges allow offenders to own guns, we'll change those offenses from felonies to misdemeanors.

i have another idea: don't commit a felony. or get a damn good lawyer.

only as much as your original post was.

you actually want someone to sit and go through every felony conviction and determine whether the offender should be able to own a gun. how about vote? same process?

how many more federal employees/paperwork/bureaucracy would you like to create? maybe you could be 0bama's 'felony forgiveness czar'.

He learned the hard way that slaves have no rights, only priviliges. The subjects ,[ who at one time were citizens]of the United States have gradually and gladly surrendered their rights for the privilege of being taken care of [security] by the government.

“you actually want someone to sit and go through every felony conviction and determine whether the offender should be able to own a gun.”

Perhaps you are not aware that stretching for the worst possible interpretation of another person’s remarks is intellectually dishonest.

We would only need to establish the conditions under which a felon could petition for restoration of his right to self defense.

“how about vote? same process?”

The founding fathers very wisely established a representative republic rather than a mobocracy. Every expansion of the franchise has moved us closer to mobocracy, bringing us eventually to the Bamtard and potential fall of the Constitution.

you said, "...examine cases on their individual merits ..."

that sounds a lot like going through case by case. now you want guidelines.

how about this guideline: you are convicted of committing an act that is defined by the law as a felony, you do not own a gun.

or is a businessman who commits securities fraud more deserving of a gun than an inner city youth who robs someone of $20?

“5/15/09, nothing like posting current news.”

Well, I hadn’t seen it, but it’s not like I haven’t seen plenty of stories like this before. It’s good to be reminded just how close we are to becoming a police state.

NEVER, NEVER, TALK ABOUT YOUR GUNS WITH NEIGHBORS!

“I stopped right there.
There’s no such thing as a ‘quiet mobile home Trailer park’.”

So you are part of the uppercrust that looks down on trailer trash? I have lived in three different mobile home parks and they were all quiet and peaceful.
