Here’s how people will lose their insurance, even if this is not an official single payer system. My husband is the president of a small- middle sized organization. He says that if Obamacare becomes reality, he would pay the penalty for not providing insurance rather than stay with their more expensive employer-provided health care plan. He would be forced to do this to remain competitive, because all his competition would take the cheaper government option.
I’m guessing a lot of people with employer provided insurance will find that benefit disappear. Their reality is that they will have no option to keep their current plan.
Exactly. The goal is to get any private insurers out of the business as quickly as possible. I think I also read something about a provision that says once you go ON the government plan, you cannot get off of it, you are stuck there for life. So the result would obviously be for private plans to be forced out of business in pretty short order.
Obama is being utterly disingenuous about his plans for health care (but I'm sure you knew that). Not only will private companies face predatory pricing from the "public option" within the proposed National Insurance Exchange, but they will be subject to "Trojan Horse" provisions embedded within the legislation itself.
These rules prevent private insurers from adding new subscribers and allow the government to invalidate any plans that seeks to change their coverages - as they must in order to compete.
The Heritage Foundation commissioned a detailed analysis of the Obama plan, and the results are clear and unambiguous: You Will Lose Your Current Insurance. Period. End of Story.
