Obama to explain health plan at 'town hall' meet (Obama begins trotting out "failed system victims")

President Barack Obama was on Tuesday to explain what his plan to reform the US healthcare system would mean for Americans who already have insurance amid a growing furore over his proposed changes.

Obama was scheduled to travel to Portsmouth, New Hampshire for what could be a rowdy 'town hall-style' meeting at a time when opponents of his healthcare overhaul have shouted down lawmakers holding similar events around the country.

"He'll discuss what health insurance reform will mean for Americans who already have insurance, highlighting the consumer protections he laid out in recent weeks and focusing on ending denial of coverage based on pre-existing conditions," an administration official said.

The US president was to be introduced by Lori Hitchcock, 52, a self-employed widow who has been unable to get health insurance because she has Hepatitis C, a "preexisting condition" which many insurers use to deny patients coverage or offer it only at much costlier rates.

"No insurance company will sell health coverage to her because of her pre-existing condition and as a result she has been uninsured for two years," the official said.

A state health care program would cost her 750 dollars a month with a 500 dollar deductible, which "Lori is unable to afford", the official said.

Again? I think he’s beating a dead horse and the fact is he can’t explain it anyway, as no Dem in the executive or legislative branch knows all the details.

This is the best he can do? Does she still have access to health care? yes. Under Obama Care, if the government determines your particular situation does not warrant providing care too, you are completely out of luck. There is no way for you to get the health care you need. If you are lucky, I suppose, they might give you a pill that will kill you.

So she CAN get health insurance but price is an issue?????

Thats a pretty low deductible = what is the premium for higher ones...couldn’t we pay the deductible for a lot of folks for the 1 trillion dollars he wants to spend without throwing the baby out with the bath water???

I just don't understand all the fuss about "pre-existing conditions", as if it was some sort of discrimination (which it is) that was against the law (which it's not).

Do these yahoos not understand how insurance works?

It's a gamble - by buying insurance, you're betting that you might get some disease or accident, the company is betting that you won't.

Buying insurance with a pre-existing condition is like joining a poker game with an ace up your sleeve - the game is decided before you start.

And O'bama wants to paint the insurance companies as evil because they object to your cheating.

Grown men will weep when Ruprecht tells his story and is embraced by a visibly moved Obama.

The biggest mistake these idiots make is that they believe this universal health care stuff will cure all diseases.

When I had a preexisting condition and changed insurance the new company just told me that they wouldn’t cover that specific item for 6 months after it’s been deemed not a problem.

My state (most I think have) a pool..All health insurers that do business in the state have to accept so many insureds that have been declined a policy. Infact part of the application process is the requirement to show you have been rejected from a regular policy. You then go into this pool that gives you insurance..yes the premium is high but everyone can get something....A whole lot cheaper and better than changing the system for the other 85% of us...

Look at your posts 8 and 9.

This smells like shades of Graeme Frost and S-CHIP.

Cheers!

0bama and his minions keep dredging out special-case exceptions as reasons to enslave us all.

Corner cases make bad law!

Why not establish an arbitration panel to address the corner cases and LEAVE THE REST OF US ALONE!!

Bull***t! There's not a single state plan in this nation that has that high cost-sharing. Its illegal, against federal regulations. But do you think a single person listening will do their homework to find out if its true or not? This man is a liar, and he should be sued for spreading this kind of crap.

Show me what state this woman lives in, and I'll tell you how her Medicaid program works.

I’m hoping somebody asks this Alinsky Socialist, “If the plan is so good, why don’t YOU and YOUR FAMILY subscribe?”

If she went to a $2500 deductible then I bet she pays a quarter of the monthly premiums.
