Senate confirms Sotomayor, first Hispanic justice
The Hill ^ | 08/06/2009 | J. Taylor Rushing

The Senate on Thursday sent Sonia Sotomayor to the Supreme Court with a modest display of bipartisan support, making her the first Hispanic justice and only the third woman to serve on the high court.

The 68-31 vote held few surprises, as a small band of Republicans joined Democrats in confirming her 72 days after President Barack Obama nominated the former prosecutor and judge. Her confirmation paves the way for Sotomayor to begin assembling her staff and prepare for the court to convene in October.

No big surprise. The dims hold the majority, so it was a forgone conclusion that the ‘wise latina’ would get in.

This is what happens when the people put their brains on auto-pilot and vote in a bunch of agenda-driven liberals.

Ted Kennedy opposed some Bush judicial nominees SPECIFICALLLY BECAUSE they were hispanic. He saw it as possibly helping the GOP in elections.

Ted Kennedy is a racist and a hypocrite.

-—”And remember that the wanna be senator, Toomey of PA, would have voted for the “wise” Latina.”-—

Yup. Pat Toomey, who I was always being told was the “real Conseravtive” in PA every time he set sights on ousting Specter, wanted Rudy Giuliani as the GOP nominee in 2008, and wanted Sotomayor on the SCOTUS.

For this guy, we gave the Democrats Specter and a Supermajority. I already feel Toomey-ed out.

If they’re going to have a liberal judicial activist, racist, sexist bigot on the SC, it may as well be an inept one.

Just sent a quick letter to Senator Alexander, noting my displeasure with his vote.

Senate confirms Sotomayor, first Hispanic justice

Shouldn't this say: "Senate confirms Sotomayor, first Openly Racist Justice in Decades"

“And remember that the wanna be senator, Toomey of PA, would have voted for the “wise” Latina.”

And that makes me absolutely sick. How could he be so blind? I wonder who got to him. I wonder how and why he was persuaded to issue the op-ed.

Attention Republicans! We have positively identified nine traitors to the party.

Susan Collins (ME)
Olympia J. Snowe (ME)
Judd Gregg (NH)
George V. Voinovich (OH)
Mel Martinez (FL)
Richard G. Lugar (IN)
Christopher S. “Kit” Bond (MO)
Lindsey Graham (SC)
Lamar Alexander (TN)

The next step is to primary them and excise this rotting tumor that has taken up hold in the GOP.

Appropriate that Al Franken was presiding over this vote.

Ironic isn't it. 68 circus clowns the most revolting presiding.

For myself I am glad that she is an affirmative action hire who is unlikely to put together a cogent and convincing legal argument that would influence the other judges to her feelings based view of the law.

Better a dumb judge with a perverse view of the law than a smart and convincing one.

She also has the distinction of being the least intelligent person ever appointed to the Supreme Court!

That's my take on it too.

Sotomayor gives hope to dumba$$e$ everywhere. Dumbasses all over the country are now saying to themselves, "well, if this dumbass can do it, well, by golly, I can too!"

You’re absolutely right. I can’t believe THE PAT TOOMEY would have supported this nominee.

Well, at least he showed his true colors before we elected him. I was actually considering donating to his campaign. I’m glad I just hadn’t gotten around to it yet.

I’ve been debating people on the PA page, and they’re willing to turn a blind eye to this treachery and continue to support Toomey. Unbelievable.
