Senate confirms Sotomayor, first Hispanic justice
The Hill ^ | 08/06/2009 | J. Taylor Rushing

The Senate on Thursday sent Sonia Sotomayor to the Supreme Court with a modest display of bipartisan support, making her the first Hispanic justice and only the third woman to serve on the high court.

The 68-31 vote held few surprises, as a small band of Republicans joined Democrats in confirming her 72 days after President Barack Obama nominated the former prosecutor and judge. Her confirmation paves the way for Sotomayor to begin assembling her staff and prepare for the court to convene in October.

One Liberal Justice replaces another Liberal Justice. The time to be worried is if one of the Conservative Justices, or Justice Kennedy, dies or retires.

In some regards no. She will vote along the same lines. The problem is, she’ll be here twenty to thirty years longer than he would have been. We’ll be stuck with this racist, judicial legislator, incompetent, who was overruled four of six times her decisions came before the SCOTUS.

Disgraceful!

Thanks, Voinovich. You just kicked dirt in the face of nearly everyone who helped put you in office.

Not that race matters, but she wasn’t the first Hispanic nominated. George W. Bush nominated a Hispanic, and the “party of diversity” shot him down.

But that is secondary to the fact that one leftist judge was replaced by another leftist.

The Gators first game against Charleston Southern will have more suspense than this vote did.

In the end it’s not going to make any difference to the court. Not a bit.

zero
zip
none

Maybe, maybe not. We've replaced a quiet left liberal with a functionally illiterate yet loudmouthed left-liberal.

That could be a problem.

When the AA shat hits the fan like the health care debacle has then the Rinos et al and the bluedog types will be held accountable, but for now they cringe when the race card is played, and they folded too easily.

The only silver lining in this is that she is not too bright and recognized as such by those who are now her colleagues. She will be taking a spot that might have been gained by much more effective advocates of the left’s positions. It’s not a gain for us but it’s about the least loss we could expect.

So, will they celebrate with a BBQ? Oh, wait...the beans would fail through the grill. Never mind.

Agreed. Nothing really changes here.

Well that’s something. I had expected the margin to be larger, I’m glad I was wrong.
