Mayors offer wise perspective on concealed guns (barf alert)
Capital Times ^ | 29 july 09

Posted on 07/29/2009 8:23:31 AM PDT by rellimpank

Wisconsin mayors from every corner of the state, and from every place on the ideological spectrum -- Madison's Dave Cieslewicz, Milwaukee's Tom Barrett, Waukesha's Larry Nelson, Green Bay's James Schmitt, Stevens Point's Andrew Halverson and Superior's Dave Ross -- are members of the national group Mayors Against Illegal Guns.

The mayors' organization led the fight against the so-called Thune Amendment, a controversial proposal sponsored by South Dakota Sen. John Thune to allow individuals to travel from state to state with handguns concealed, making it so that police officers, family members and others could be unaware that they were in the presence of someone armed with a lethal weapon.

Mayors against illegal guns. But those concealed guns are legally owned and legally carried. Until it is made illegal to carry them.

Technicalities and details.

Do they belong to Mayors for cute puppies too?

I belong to Citizens against city government corruption. Too many crooks in city hall from coast to coast.

Mayors don't stand against graft. Most of them hook a buddy up.

I have a hard time thinking of a right more pivotal to our freedom and more cherished than the right to keep and bear arms. Have gun? Have freedom.

I shouldn’t need to add this, but the article quoted the fraudulent VPC “study” about CCW having slain some people. Well, to add to that, criminals don’t bother getting a concealed carry permit and won’t be buying / acquiring their gun at a gun store. To cap it all off, our rights are not predicated on the behavior of criminals.

Police officer won’t know.....

Throwing the BS flag on at least this one

Every state has a requirement to inform police officers if contacted and you are CCW.

Alaska has no permits needed for CCW, but the law is very plain - the Lord may help you if you fail to inform, because the courts here have no mercy on this subject.

How do you figure? If they were representative of the ideological spectrum, they wouldn't all want to steal my rights. I HOPE that's not the entire ideological spectrum of those in politics these days.

If this be the case then the PEOPLE should make this an issue during the re election campaigns and vote their asses out of office. C’mon people get some cajones for a change. Stand up for the rights that was given you by the founders and against those that want to take them away.

Well, people need to get involved during the primaries and support conservative candidates; otherwise they risk something akin to the presidential SNAFU of 2008. One candidate was a collectivist liberal with no respect for conservatives, conservative values, or the Constitution, and the other one was a Democrat with no birth certificate.

And, they need to make their campaign contributions directly to conservative candidates. Half the time, the party supports a liberal weenie just because he's the incumbent or for some other shady reason (see "Arlen Spectre")

Well at least the cheeseheads are showing the nation where they stand on the gun rights of it’s citizens.

‘someone armed with a lethal weapon’

I’d want my money back if it wasn’t ‘lethal’.

I was pulled over recently for drifting through a stop sign by the state police and I was carrying at the time. PA law has absolutely no requirement that I inform the police I am carrying. It is entirely at my discretion.

THanks to all. Back when we had CCW classes here, that was the wisdom exchanged.

The Cap Times is significantly to the Left of Pravda these days. It’s best simply to disregard anything found in Cap Times pages.

This group needs to change its name to “Mayors Against Guns”, because that is its reality. Thune’s amendment would ONLY have affected legal guns, and legal gun owners. These guys are simply “full of it”.

Of course they avoid the point by mis-stating it.

Other people being unaware that you are carrying a concealed weapon is the point. “Other people” includes would-be criminals.

Concealed carry laws protect everyone, even those who chose not to carry, because the criminals don’t know who might have a gun.
