A Presidential Pitfall: Speaking One’s Mind
New York Times ^ | July 26, 2009 | PETER BAKER

Posted on 07/27/2009 10:07:28 AM PDT by Panzerlied

There is no owner’s manual for the Oval Office, no school to learn how to be a president. Perhaps most challenging for any new president is learning how powerful that megaphone really is. Every offhand word, every spontaneous remark, every comment informed more by emotion than calculation risks profound consequences.

No owner’s manual?

First, he does not own it, he rents it, by the consent of the governed.

Also, if their is a deed or title to the office, it should be held by the American people -—

And temporary residency only given to those who have documentation that they deserve it!

Obama has stepped in it so bad over this, that he can't get out. He has revealed himself (once again) for what he is.

"I may be a little biased here, and I don't know all the facts, but the Cambridge Police clearly acted stupidly."

Obama let his bias and underlying feelings be exposed with that statement.

In truth, underneath the sheen, and the thin venier...behind the TOTUS, Obama is just like Gates, Wright, Ayers, etc.

And, IMHO, that is the most revealing thing about the issue with Gates. He is so clearly another person and instance of a pattern that fits Obama's other "close friends".

Racist, hate filled, angry, people who detest traditional America and the free market and whose seething hatred is only just below the surface...and in some cases always out in the open. Frank Davis, Bill Ayers, Bernardine Dohrn, Jeremiah Wright, Henry Louis Gates, even his own wife, Michelle (by her own admission)...and the list goes on and on.

There is a clear pattern here that the MSM not only knows, but refuses to report. And that is because most of them share this hatred.

Obama and all those pushing his radical agenda are abject marxist ideologues. Their "fundamental; change" is nothing more than a destruction of the American free market and fundamental republican principle.

During the Bush years, the left would pounce on any verbal misstep, and use it for maximum advantage. They still do it for any conservative. But when a leftist has a verbal mistep, they [the NYT] urges us to have, as Michael Savage would say... "uuuhhhhhhhnnnnderstanding".

Well, no way. There is too much at stake, as the left attempts to destroy the private sector of this Great Nation. There are TOO many folks that pay only peripheral attention, and are not yet moved by the finer points of Death Care or what's going on at the Honduran border... this is something that does turn their head, and is thus fair game.

There is no owner’s manual for the Oval Office, no school to learn how to be a president.

What a stupid comment. Obama is 47 years old, which means he is old enough to have watched at least 4 other presidents and studied how they acted.

I think most of us who stay informed would know exactly what not to say at a press conference, would understand how to speak circumspectly.

Bush was excellent at saying what he said in a way that was controlled and gave honor to his office.

The only reason Obama doesn't know how to be President is that he is lazy and uninformed.

I agree “No owner’s manual?” He may not have a manual, but he does have a staff of hundreds who do have lots of manuals and advice and “expertise” and his staff is perhaps two to four times the size of the previous resident.

There is no owner’s manual for the Oval Office,

That's why it is usually better to elect somebody who has actually had some experience running something other than a political campaign or a community extortion racket. Dopey Joe had it right during the primary campaign when he plagiarized whoever said that the Presidency is not a job suited to on-the-job training.

Mr. Obama’s comments on the Gates case had reflected a president still getting accustomed to his new position. dealing with stupid white folk.

“I think there’s something to that,” Mr. Axelrod said. “The fact of the matter is he’s a human being. product of Reverend Wright’s mentoring.

Being an adult implies discretion and accountability for one’s actions.

Being an American implies a respectful tolerance for people of all races or creeds.

Obama is neither.

There is no owner’s manual for the Oval Office, no school to learn how to be a president.

It was wrong for 0bama to race-bait the Gates issue, whether he is the president of the country or head of the local school board.

Only people as obtuse as those at the NYT would think an "owner's manual" or a "school" is necessary for someone to know not to shoot his mouth off about a situation in which he does not have the facts.

This would be fine if Obama’s words were “off-hand” or “spontaneous”. The truth is he planned his response, according to Gibbs and if anyone thinks Lynn Sweet was happy about getting stuck with her planted question, just look at her face as she reads from a card. She’s not happy giving Obama this set-up.

When Bush made mistakes, they went after him for being stupid.

They never offered up any excuse like “There are no manuals for being president”. They went for the kill.

Consequences that can be mitigated or amplified by the biased press, depending on the party of the office holder.

You said it. That's the game-changer, right there. President Bush's every pronunciation, his every syllable, was scrutinised and criticised by the biased media, while Hussein's are only lauded when presentable, and whitewashed or excused when not. When did they ever say of a remark by President Bush, "well, the position doesn't come with an owner's manual"? And President Bush's extemporaneous remarks were much more polished than the teleprompter-in-chief's are, and the media has the gall to praise his "fluency" for being able to read from it! They are so over-the-top with their propaganda, Goebbels could take lessons.

I remember the chorus of people complaining when Bush said “bring it on”, that he was encouraging the terrorists to attack our troops. That’s just one example.

On the other hand, this does show that the press, even though they lied about it during the campaign, KNOWS that Bush was qualified to be President, and Obama was not.
