Gun-Shy
Washington Post ^ | July 23, 2009 | Dana Milbank

How do you outgun the NRA? Very, very carefully.

Mark Pryor knows all about that. The Democratic senator from pro-gun Arkansas was nowhere to be seen on the Senate floor during Wednesday's showdown over a proposal, championed by the National Rifle Association, that would have gutted state gun-control laws across the nation.

Toward the end of the vote, Pryor entered the chamber through the back door, took a few steps inside, flashed a thumbs-down to the clerk, and retreated as fast and furtively as somebody dodging gunfire.

Several minutes later, the Democrats had racked up more than enough votes to block the proposal. "Are there any senators in the chamber wishing to vote or wishing to change their vote?" the presiding officer inquired.

Pryor burst back in, this time through a side door. "Mr. President!" he called out. "Mr. President!" He stopped in the well to consult with Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.), a gun-control advocate who was keeping the whip sheet. Schumer gave Pryor a nod, and the Arkansan -- reassured that his vote was not needed to defeat the proposal -- changed his vote to an "aye."

If Pryor wasn't exactly a profile in courage...

Other Democrats, such as Pennsylvania's Bob Casey and Colorado's Mark Udall and Michael Bennet, were said to have been willing to vote "no" if necessary.

Twenty minutes after the voting began, Bennet and Udall left the cloakroom together and walked into the chamber. Bennet went to the well to consult with Schumer, who indicated that it was safe for Bennet -- a product of D.C.'s St. Albans School -- to vote with the NRA. Bennet looked to Udall, who gave an approving nod, and cast his "aye" vote.

Also, more guts than Dana Milbank himself, who has mocked gun owners and hunters on a number of occasions on MSNBC.

Not courage, just the usual slimy actions you expect from the senate, especially from crats.
Are any of these a$$wipes up for reelection?

This episode needs to be hammered home during the general campaigns.

Our “leaders” have gone from representing their districts to serving themselves first, their party second, special interests third, and their voters last.

the Arkansan — reassured that his vote was not needed to defeat the proposal — changed his vote to an “aye.”

But it looked like the Dems had this one in the bag....the article also states that Casey from PA (my lousy Senator) was willing to vote 'no' if they needed him, but voted 'yes' to make PA residents happy.

The fix was in on this amendment.

Bennet, the liberal carpet-bagger.

Notice the lie the becomes the big message in the article: “the law would have gutted state laws..” Nope, absolutely false. The law simply said that if your state and my state both allow concealed carry, we could carry in each others’ states IF we follow the carry laws of the state we are in at the time. In essence, a carry permit in one state becomes a carry permit in all states that permit carry as long as you follow each states’ laws when you visit. It would have expanded the right to defend oneself to any state where that same right is practiced, and it is this expansion that has the gun controller going nuts.

Mark Pryor is a talking point spouting, lying to his constituents, closet extreme lefty. He won’t come up for election until 2012, so he is real smug about voting with the far left. However he knows that if he records a vote against gun rights, he will have a real hard time living it down. I’m sure he sold his soul to some other senator to keep him from having to tell us who he is. He hopes that no one in Arkansas will recall who he really is by the next election. Just watch how he sells Arkansas down the river to pay for this favor.

New Mexico Bingaman voted against it also. There has to be a bunch of these fools up for reelection soon, and hopefully we can get them swept out.

The big thing, New Mexicans, is to raise enough hell to get news coverage to the New Mexican republican voters who have been strangled out. New Mexican conservatives cannot keep up with events if they are force fed Texas news. It is going to take a lot of people to scream loudly to get this exposed and done.

He will be in office his entire life like his daddy before him. At home he runs ads with his wife and children praying at the table and with a bible in his hands. He is out in camo with his shotgun. He is a sly lawyer with the IQ of the democratic machine in ARKANSAS. I have no respect for politicians like this which is most of them. He needs to be working at the chicken plant instead of living the high life in DC. Just my opinion.

Huckabee should bring Pryor’s vote change up on his show, if he had any balls.
