Liz Cheney: No question on citizenship (+ video)
Politico ^ | 7-22-09 | Ben Smith

Posted on 07/22/2009 9:50:20 AM PDT by STARWISE

Liz Cheney is taking some heat today for, amid a discussion on Larry King Live of the fringe movement that doubts Obama's citizenship, appearing to defend it.

"People are fundamentally uncomfortable, and they're fundamentally increasingly uncomfortable with an American president who seems to be afraid to defend America," she said "The kind of thing you saw on this video is indicative of sort of a general feeling of discomfort."

"She refuses to say, 'This is ludicrous,' because she actually wants to encourage these people to believe this," Democratic consultant James Carville shot back on CNN.

I asked Cheney about the subject, and she emailed:

I don't have any question about Barack Obama's right to be President of the United States.

My concern is with his policies. I am deeply troubled about the path he is taking this country down -- massively expanding the size of government, weakening our national defenses, increasing taxes on all Americans and nationalizing health care. These are dangerous policies for the nation.

The video that triggered the question:

This works for me. As poor as CNN’s ratings are King still has more of an audience than Politico and more will see the vid on youtube. Bottom line, the longer this story goes on the more people will suspect 0bama.

I agree with her on this one. If she joined the birthers, she’d automatically be branded a nut.

Why is Liz Cheney expected to answer for the birther movement, anyway? How many videos of leftist truthers did Larry King confront prominent Democrats with? How many Democrats had to answer to the anti-war lunatics smearing themselves with fake blood and bursting into committee hearings, or urging soldiers to kill their commanding officers at protest rallies?

Like the Press and the DNC aren't willing to brand conservatives nuts for their support for guns, pro-life, anti-gay measure positions, right?

“Is he a citizen?”

“As far as I know”

You may not want to agree with me, but it’s different.

The Right has always been known for guns, pro-life and traditional marriage. The birth certificate is something entirely different, and not a party policy anyway.

“Liz Cheney defends the Birthers”

If I’m reading that right, in that article, it seems to say that the following, below, is “defending birthers” (or the Obama Birth Certificate issue).

It sure doesn’t seem that she’s doing that to me (from the statement below). It seems that she’s trying to sidestep the issue and not get drawn into a discussion of it.

I don’t have any question about Barack Obama’s right to be President of the United States.

My concern is with his policies. I am deeply troubled about the path he is taking this country down — massively expanding the size of government, weakening our national defenses, increasing taxes on all Americans and nationalizing health care. These are dangerous policies for the nation.

I think what is going on here, is that the leftists are now going to try to put *anyone* who opposes Obama and his policies as a “birther” — in order to try and marginalize opposition to Obama’s policies.

That appears to be what is going on by these articles...

You said — Why is Liz Cheney expected to answer for the birther movement, anyway?

She’s not expected to... That’s not what is going on here. What is happening is that the leftists have now seen that the “birther issue” has been successfully painted as an “obsessive and out-of-control” group, and they are using that “perception” by the public, in order to “paint” anyone who opposes Obama’s leftist policies as being in that camp.

It’s a technique that the left is now staring to use to marginalize any conservative who opposes Obama’s policies, as a “birther” and by association — “obviously nuts”...

Why defend the ‘birthers’ if you are going to pull a Liz/John campbell and say he’s legit.

The left isn’t content to call birthers nuts. The new talking point is to refer birthers as racists.

You said — Liz buckled

No, what she was doing was trying to not allow the leftists to paint her as a “nut case” — as the leftists are now trying to do with anyone who opposes Obama’s policies (using the “Obama Derangement Syndrome” crowd as “cover” for their “marginalization” of those who oppose Obama).

Everyone forgets the Leftwingtards first raised the issue by claiming that John McCain was not "native born". They had 15 to 20 iterations of how that might have happened.

The correct answer to pukes like Larry King is simply to remind him that he had interviewed people who claimed McCain was not "native born".

Notice that I am pointing to "people he interviewed", not that they claimed it on his show.

His only response would be "who" and I'm sure a list of a half dozen can be worked up in short order should anyone else encounter this problem.

His only respose for that would be "but they didn't say that on my show" (or words to that effect), and you simply reply "you must have missed it when you researched what they were saying before the show, or, it escaped your attention".

King knows those words ~ he uses them himself, and that's his logical flow ~ it didn't happen, I wasn't there.

Yep..., that is now the technique that the leftists are going to start using for anyone who opposes Obama’s policies.

If your arguments are *strong* and *reasoned* in opposing Obama’s policies — the *quickest way* to get you dismissed in the public’s mind is to get you to say that you want Obama to produce his birth certificate.

Your previous reasoned arguments about Obama’s policies *just went out the window* — if you get into that argument... LOL...
