40 Years Since Chappaquiddick; Ted Kennedy, Mary Jo Kopechne
Newsbusters.org ^ | July 18, 2009 | Rich Noyes

Posted on 07/18/2009 9:59:17 AM PDT by WhiteCastle

Earlier this week, ABC, CBS and NBC all noted the tenth anniversary of the death of John F. Kennedy, Jr. That Kennedy was an “icon” according to CBS’s Harry Smith, and “the Prince of Camelot” to ABC’s Chris Cuomo, a former cousin-in-law. Today marks the 40th anniversary of the death of Mary Jo Kopechne, killed July 18, 1969 after leaving a party with Senator Edward Kennedy. That night, Kennedy drove his car off a bridge, and left the scene with Kopechne still in the submerged vehicle; he did not call the police until the following morning.

Over the course of the past four decades, the media elite have touted Kennedy as a “liberal lion,” spending far more time celebrating his ideological agenda than reminding people of his behavior that night in 1969. As my colleague Brent Baker noted in an op-ed back in 1999, the media have come to refer to Chappaquiddick as a “Kennedy tragedy,” not a “Kopechne tragedy.”

it says something about this country that this man could serve in the u.s. senate for a half century,

and meanwhile, help the left destroy this country.

It says a great deal about the voters of Massachusetts.

Let us not forget that Ted could not beat Jimmy Carter, in the Primary!

It took Kennedy 11 hours to call police. The car was in 8 feet of water. The diver that recovered her body said she was in the area where the airpocket was located and had he arrived within 25 minutes he may have been anle to save her.

Her family betrayed her by not pressing the case and cremating her body so fast.

I usually send a card to Ted, expressing my sorrow over Mary Jo’s death, and share in his grief, this year I forgot till the last moment, and had to call one of his offices... and left a message...

"The Kennedy Tragedy..." How quaint of the media.

Can you imagine had this happened to Nixon? There would still be wall to wall coverage about the "evil conservative...". Of course Nixon would not have been out drinking and driving, or fled the scene.

makes me sick how that family are regarded by those in the media as some kind of great family.

They have left people to die, rape, underage ,drugs, drink corruption.

Yet they are darlings.

read about the Irish Italian mafia wars in Boston and how JFK went aftert he mafia and then let his brother get in power thus taking control of the unions, contracts votes etc.

The Irish worked with the feds against the mafia while the kennedys were lapping it up.

Not forgetting how they have brought terrorists over from Northern Ireland and have been at fundraisers for the terrorist IRA.

If the Dems even try to call “Health Care Reform” -— “Kennedy Care” -— Republicans should offer amendments for swimming lessons, CRP instructions, and how to dial 911, or stop at the Fire House while you walk by it, to inform authorities should you happened to drive your car off of a bridge with someone in your car that is still alive!

The sad thing to me about Sen. Kennedy and John Jr. is that they both had a reckless streak in them. They didn't seem to care about anyone but themselves. The senator was probably loaded when he plunged the car with Ms. Kopechne in it into the lake. John Jr. may have been sober, but he was an inexperienced pilot flying in bad weather without any concern for his wife and sister-in-law. And these are the ones we hold up as heroes?

It's been nice celebrating 40 years of the moon landing. It has been a source of pride for this nation. The other two incidents (40 years for Chappaquidick and 10 years for the plane crash) are major embarrassments we should forget.

The only ones I would want to remember would be Ms. Kopechne and the two ladies who died in the plane crash. May they rest in peace.

It does indeed.
Barney frank prostitution
Kerry
Delahunt
Kennedy who are loved in that liberal hell hole.

Why do they get voted in ?

Because after living there it is easy to know why.
The media are the most biased media I have ever seen and I have lived around the world and this country.
My mother in law is from there she had no clue about Frank until two months ago when I told her.

The Kennedy’s are loved because the media spin the facts and many times ignore the facts.
A freeper yesterday said she was hoping one day her state(MA) would go back to being republican
No chance that will ever happen, the media, the homosexuals and the Kennedy’s are in full control of that state

Perhaps the family was pressured into disposing of the body...or maybe they were paid a nice sum of money to do so. The Kennedys have always had rather sinister clout.

It’s not just media; the voters are often unwilling to make a change. I don’t know if that comes from laziness or stupidity, but I’ve watched it happen in PA. The same jerks are re-elected every time. Something about “well, we know what a crook he is, but we don’t know the other guy.” And they vote for the crook they know.

Hummmmm? I just CANNOT imagine someone being capable of opening, starting and driving a vehicle while at the same time not know where his passenger was regardless of how drunk he was....... or was he really drunk during the actual accident?

If I’m not mistaken, to this day, the Kopechne family has never spoken of their daughter’s death publicly.

If I’m not mistaken, nobody who was at the party on Chappaquiddick (sp?) Island has ever spoken publicly either. There were at least a dozen people in that house at the party, when Ted and Mary Jo left. None of them has ever spoken publicly about that night.

I think it’s possible that silence was bought or intimidation or bribes, or something happened to cause everyone to never speak of that night.

If I recall from what I’ve read, the party was at a rented cottage on the island. Within hours, they cleaned up the house, and had everyone leave the island before any law enforcement investigation could happen.

I disagree totally with Ted politically. So it rubs me the wrong way that, as a term of endearment, he is sometimes called the “liberal lion” as if liberalism is such a good doctrine. I guess to the liberals in the MSM, the liberal lion is a positive term. To the rest of us, we think differently about what it means for him to be the liberal lion.

Does anyone know what happened to ytedk.com? It used to have exhaustive info on the senator from Chappaquiddick.
