Being Taken for a Ride
Townhall ^ | June 12, 2009 | Burt Prelutsky

Posted on 07/05/2009 5:06:24 PM PDT by RobinMasters

The other day I received an e-mail from a lady who let me know she was in the habit of forwarding my articles to her daughter who is away at college. Apparently she felt I could provide the young woman with an antidote to her left-wing professors. I wished her luck, but I didn’t hold out much hope. After all, by this time the young coed has been immersed in public education for 13 or 14 years. Let a child be raised by wolves and you shouldn’t be too surprised if, upon being rescued, his table manners leave something to be desired.

I’m not engaging in hyperbole when I say that I’d sooner send a youngster to Florida during hurricane season than to most colleges. As I see it, he or she has a very good chance of surviving the hurricanes. Their hair might get mussed, but at least their brains wouldn’t be scrambled.

Frankly, I’m surprised that there are any young conservatives left in America. They deserve to be on the list of endangered species. Considering the amount of pressure they face from peers and professors, I am in awe of those with the gumption to stand their ground. If the nation’s Founding Fathers came back to life, I believe they’d recognize them as the progeny of those Americans they last saw hurling tea into Boston Harbor, fighting at Lexington and freezing at Valley Forge.

Thanks for this link.

Bert Prelutsky is a talented writer that can be counted on for a fun read. Most of the comments were appreciative but one stuck out. The poster claimed at the outset s/he was a conservative and then concluded the post with:

“To truly test your children’s decision making, it would require them having no predisposition to either conservatives or liberals and then receiving equal exposure to both. Then if they conclude that liberals are liars, you can be proud of them.

Well, be proud of them anyway. But plying conservatism on them and being proud of them is rather backwards.”

Color me too skeptical but the first analogy that came to mind concerned potty training and the use of toilet paper but I decided it would be too messy to describe in detail.

A few late shifts in the garden supplies department at Walmart will shake all that French Deconstruction crap out of them.

Here is a precept for their guidance. Repeat as needed. It will redeem all but the most recidivist drum circle hippies. “Poverty is romantic in your twenties, dull in your thirties, tragic in your forties. Provide, children, provide . . .”

Government K-12 schools are our nation's **most** serious threat. I seriously mean this!

Government K-12 schools and the young that they indoctrinate are the Marxist's **most** important and powerful weapon against our freedom.

If conservatives were smart, they would start conservative education foundations. These foundations would award grants to conservative teachers. The teacher would open tuition-free conservative one room school houses, mini-schools, and homeschool co-ops. The foundations would certify the teacher, test the students, and approve curriculum.

The foundations would also start private sport leagues to break the government monopoly on team sports.

The foundations would organize the parents and taxpayers to starve the government k-12 schools of money, and work to completely shut them down!

Yuri Bezmenov warned us about the “demoralization” of the U.S. This demoralization is now complete. Conservatives must fight back by rescuing our youth. Conservative must begin the process of “re-moralization”. !

The only conservatives I know under the age of 45 have been mugged by reality. The rest are Marxist liberals.

I have raised two. One is 23 and the other 31. Both are college educated and extremely conservative as are their spouse/fiancee.

Forgot to mention one went to private, then public school. The other went to public school then was homeschooled.
I have tried ot all, if I were just starting out I would homeschool. Best decision we ever made.

B-B-But there have been numerous academic studies PROVING that there is NO LIBERAL BIAS in our fine education system. It is just that finances have gotten so strained that the tenured educators can’t afford to replace their libraries of Engels and Marx and the like. If we could just give them a few more gadzillion dollars and allow them to raise tuition by a measly 20% per year, all will be well.

My parents sent two children to college. One learned to parrot back leftist talk, as needed, and sometimes even using leftist arguments to make conservative points. The other became a brainwashed leftist idiot. Personality has a lot to do with how much they will stand up to the indoctrination.

I've raised three conservatives, 26, 36, and age 40.

It must be tough to be such a pessimist. How can you even get up in the morning?

Hey! But look at my tagline. Does that look pessimistic?

**Everything** begins with an idea. That we are here at all began with an idea in the mind of God.

ANOTHER REASON TO HOMESCHOOL

This ping list is for the “other” articles of interest to homeschoolers about education and public school. This can occasionally be a fairly high volume list. Articles pinged to the Another Reason to Homeschool List will be given the keyword of ARTH. (If I remember. If I forget, please feel free to add it yourself) The main Homeschool Ping List handles the homeschool-specific articles. I hold both the Homeschool Ping List and the Another Reason to Homeschool Ping list. Please freepmail metmom to let her know if you would like to be added to or removed from either list, or both.

TiredOfTaxes and I are babysitting the list while metmom is on vacation, so please remember to freepmail metmom not one of us if you want on or off the list.

My thoughts exactly. My oldest daughter is at an incredibly liberal university and amazingly enough, her foundation remains unshaken. In fact, she has many like-minded classmates. This is one area that parents still have an incredible impact.

Also, pieces like this do more harm than good, imho. If a person believes it to be dead, there is no point in resuscitation. The conservative movement amongst our young adults in anything but dead. But you wouldn’t believe it by reading this piece.
