Exactly. But I'm not sure it will die until the opinion leaders give the signal.
The power libs hate her because she is a threat to them. But the ordinary person or young girl hates her because Saturday Night Live and David Letterman have indicated that it's the fashionable thing to look down on her.
I suspect that's especially true of the girls. I still remember my school days. Boys tend to follow each others' leads, and those who are the leaders always have followers. But the girls were always much more catty, and it was much more important to them to be associated with the popular girls and to despise the unpopular ones. Boys beat each other up; girls put each other down.
Sarah has been designated an "unpopular girl" by the fashion leaders, and that's a much more powerful propaganda ploy than any kind of political argument.
"She's not one of us," they say to each other. "Ha, ha, I'm better than she is!" And so forth. It's not a rational process.
