Correct me if I’m wrong, this type of amendment couldn’t allow for the extension of the term of the sitting president. When the amendment was passed, it was forward looking - after FDR.

I seriously doubt the state legislatures would go for this at all!

It was Trumman who was President when the 22'nd amendment was passed, but he could have run for as many terms as he wanted. The amendment applied only to future presidents.

Thank for the correction - I knew it was a president before I was born... (Eisenhower was sitting then.)
