Climate Change: A switch of four Republican votes would have defeated Waxman-Markey, the Democrats' global warming legislation. But like the Clinton Btu tax, the bill could die in the Senate and turn the House over to the GOP.
"Nations around the world are surging ahead with emission reductions and developing new energy technologies," Castle, Delaware's at-large congressman, posted on his House Web site. "The United States should be on equal footing, if not leading this effort to remain competitive."
Castle may not have noticed, but China and India have no intention of marching with us over the cliff. They are building coal and nuclear plants while scouring the world for oil. Countries like Spain have found that alternative energy costs two jobs for every "green" job created. This bill makes us competitive only with Somalia and Bangladesh.
"Such a market-driven solution, according to the Center for American Progress, is estimated to bring a net increase of about $460 million in investment revenue and 6,000 jobs to our state," Castle tells his constituents.

I wonder, are they aware that they are lying, or do they actually believe their own lies?
oops,lying = lieing
*cough*
Unfortunately this is not true. The author should know better. Pelosi only wanted Republicans voting for the bill so that she could ALLOW more Dems to vote against it, as many wanted to. The Dems recognize that a YES vote could hurt some vulnerable libs in the next election so she protected them the best she could. But the fact of the matter is that she had the reserve votes lined up if she needed them. The crime of the Outcast 8 Republicans is that the black mark of a YES vote will be applied to them rather than 8 weak Dems. That could make a difference in the next election.
I don’t know who it was, said something like that: If you tell a lie often enough it becomes the truth. They do believe their own lies
These traitors and cretins in the Congress really enjoy putting the screws to us don’t they. Ramrodding bills through the congress and late night amendment snuck in to vote on the next day. Public with little access to read the bill.
Cretins and TYRANTS——they laugh now but their day is coming!
I think you have a handle on the situation. Bottom line is the 8 Republicans should not have voted for the bill and that would have forced Nancy to come up with more dimocRAT votes. That would have blown their cover.
“This bill makes us competitive only with Somalia and Bangladesh.”
Obamanada drone: “Well, that’s a start”
Naturally, warming is on the left. The left is full of hot air, anyway.
Castle has been a RINO for years, we need to “retire” these old Blue-Blood Liberals.
I am not from DE, but heartily disagree with this jerk’s policies!
The Delaware State Republican Party is PO’ed. They have been taking flack for Castle all day. Castle doesn’t care; he’s out on a listening tour. He talks; we listen.
I told them today that if a dead dog runs against Castle; i’mn voting for the dead dog. He wants this bill so bad; let him pay for it. I refuse to give tham any more money.
In this rinky-dink state, we’ve been hammered by county, state and federal tax hikes. The county raises property taxes by 25% and now is working overtime to spend $2 million of stimulus money to turn an abandoned rail line into a green path, even though it will cost an additional $100K/yr. (unbudgeted) to maintain it. Then the state goes out and buys MBNA’s old property for $13 million two years ago and spends $120K/yr in maintenance costs. They have no idea what to do with the building. Now along comes this criminal Castle trying to fleece us again.
I still want to know how he got a mortage on a house that costs over $1 million on his paycheck. Oh, silly me he got the employees discount at Bank of America.
There were Dems that voted against it that were set to switch their vote if necessary.
Good point.
It will now go down in history as a bipartisan vote.
