President Obama on Saturday called on the Iranian government to "stop all violent and unjust actions against its own people" amid calls for the White House to go further in showing support for the Iranian people after the country's disputed elections.

Republicans, in particular, have pressed Obama to speak out more forcefully, as protesters and authorities clashed Saturday in Tehran during a government crackdown.

"The universal rights to assembly and free speech must be respected and the United States stands with all who seek to exercise those rights," Obama said in a written statement.

Oh, "Unjust actions" is it. Could he possibly be any more mealu-mouthed about i?

How about TYRANNY? How about MURDER? How about abject totalitariansim and oppression?

George Bush's legacy and fight endures in the Mid East, despite, and in spite of Obama, and THAT is Obama's real dielma. It was George Bush's policy of engagement and support of liberty that has led to the people of Iran seeing the measure of freedom now established on both sides of them in Iraq and Afghjanistan...and desiring it for themselves.

Obama cannot possibly go too far in recognizing that, or he absolutely repudiates himself and his entire foreign policy.

...but their fight in Iran is far from over, and is getting brutal.

The latest updates off of twitter continue coming in:

Wait a minute, why is 0zer0 telling the same mullahs to stop violence? I thought these mullahs were peaceful. Didn’t 0zer0 quote the “holy koran” in his Cairo speech about how peaceful islam is?
So which is it 0zer0? Or don’t you have the focus group poll results in yet to tell you how to respond.
Just keep voting “present” until the polls are clear.

His minions must have been on the internet and read the polls taken on different sites to see that he needs to speak up in favor of the Iranian people......now, in a few days when the outcome is obvious he will come out forcefully for or against the protestors.....CYA style.
We have a girly-boy for a president now. Michele shows more fortitude than her limp/wristed husband.

As much as I don’t particularly care for McCain, were he President at this time, the statement from the United States would’ve been much stronger than what we see here.

Ah, so obi has now decided that meddling might be a good idea. I guess the polls told him his initial reaction was wrong.

Rather than appearing weak by begging the Iranian regime to stop their violence against the Iranian people, why doesn’t he come out strongly and state, “The United States is in complete solidarity and stands with the Iranian people protesting the tyranny exemplified in the present Iranian regime...”

Oh, I can answer my own question — because he’s on the side of the Mullah’s?! No! Not possible — is it?
