Surprise outcome of museum shooting: gay rights

The gay community wants the same hate-crime protections that blacks and Jews have – and would get them in legislation before Congress now. ___

James Von Brunn, the white supremacist charged with murdering a Holocaust Museum security guard last week, could inadvertently have won a major victory for homosexuals in the United States.

This month the US Senate is considering an amendment to federal hate-crime laws, which would broaden the definition of a hate crime, offer federal money and training to local jurisdictions, and expand the laws' protections to gays, lesbians and transgender Americans.

Now, Congress is under greater pressure to acknowledge that gays face the same threats as the Jews and blacks targeted by Mr. Von Brunn, and it could take action as soon as this week.

A US District Court announced Monday that the injured octogenarian won't be well enough to be arraigned for at least another week. It's likely Von Brunn will be charged under existing federal hate-crimes laws that cover violent attacks based on race, religion, or creed.

With most gays who become victims of crimes of violence being attacked by other gays, this little piece of legislation could really back fire on them.

Or should we maybe say "fire up their butts"!

I don't care what laws are written: If you're a dude in a dress, you're going to get laughed at by me, and a punch in the face if you try to follow my daughter into the women's restroom. Just because /you/ have a gender problem doesn't mean the rest of us have to deal with it.

I do not approve of any legislation that gives someone special benefits or protections because of lifestyle choices, and I'm sure I'll get flamed here again for it, but that includes religious preference. I don't care what religion you subscribe to, it is easy to change that by advocated choice. Oooh, look, I'm gay. Nope, I'm straight now. Now I'm a trans-gender Catholic, nope, now I'm a straight agnostic.

The idiots who keep passing these laws need to look at the constitution, and the explicit protection in there for the freedom of speech, and the gross limitations of federal powers. Because there's no way to justify this as being a constitutional ideal without wiggling out some invisible text that's not part of the constitution, nor ever intended to be part of the constitution.

If you go back and ask the founding fathers if it's ok to laugh at a guy in a dress, they'd certainly agree.

It should not be a crime to hate.

Where’s the link here? Next thing you know they’ll be advocating gay rights after the baseball scores.

There doesn’t seem to be much hate crimes prosecution of the Gaystapo terrorists who attacked Christians in California and vandalized churches in pure acts of hate.

So a fan of Ernst Rohm tries to kill Jews and the Sodomites now get a tool to persecute religious Jews.
