They had Indian raids did they not? And the Indians often used terrorism: surprise attacks (when the colonists thought they had a peaceful arrangement,) targeting civilians, and atrocities as psychological warfare.

The current war, no.

They were however very familiar with the butchery, torture and brutality visited upon colonials during the French and Indian War. Waterboarding ain't torture, nor cruel or unusual.
