Let me add, DEEDS is no good for Virginia. He’s just another face of fascism ~ like Obama ~ and we’ve all had enough of that.

“No he’s not, he does not support instant background checks at gun shows.”

Well, neither do I. I don’t support a scheme for obtaining special government approval in order to exercise the right to keep, bear, or purchase arms. You don’t have to pay for an instant government approval to buy a car, baseball bat or kitchen knife. Why are firearms inherently any different?

That said, what specific bill are you talking about? I’m not seing it on the VCDL legislation tracker for this year. The one bill that is probably most important to Virginia gun owners has been overturning the restaurant carry ban. Sen. Deeds has consistently supported that and once again voted to overturn Gov. Kaine’s veto.

“I believe the term conservative democrat is an oxymoron.”

In much the same way it has become an oxymoron to call most elected republicans conservative. Both parties have a few in spite of their concerted efforts to drive them out.

“Zell Miller is the only one who I can remember that remotely resembled a conservative.”

Creigh Deeds is one of the very few. I can name maybe 5 elected Democrats in VA who would qualify in my book. He’s one. Roscoe Reynolds and Johnny Joannou are two others in the Gen’l Assembly.

“From what I’ve read, McDonnell appears to be a really good candidate.”

Yeah. Unfortunate tendency in VA politics; either it’s a contest between two knuckleheads or two really good candidates.

“Those committee chairmen who attempted to inflict so much harm on the people have been REMOVED and aren’t there anymore.”

Most of that was as a result of the GOP losing the Senate in 2007. By definition, you lose control of the majority of the seats, the Chairs on committees will change. I don’t think it was an improvement, but we at least got rid of some of the worst RINOs in the Senate as a result.

Well, I’m not one of those folks who bleats GOP good, Dems baaaad. You have to look at the candidate. Sad to say, Conservatives in both parties are in the vast minority.

Since when? Please don’t make me repeat my “bimodal saddle” story.

Virginia has a crowd of RINOs. This was left over from the creation of a Republican party in the 60s and 70s. Most folks forget this was a ONE PARTY STATE up until Mills Godwin figured out he probably shouldn't be a democrat anymore, and Linwood Holton won the Governorship. Mills came along and replaced Linwood in the next election, but that time as a Republican.

Linwood supposedly objected to letting Conservative former-democrats into the new Republican party ~ his pathetic example lived on in the guise of a series of Republican RINOs who thought themselves better than the Conservative former-democrats.

After that it gets more complex until we get to Governor Doug Wilder. If he'd been white and lived anywhere in the Midwest he'd been a Conservative to moderate Republican, but this was Virginia, so he was a democrat. Long after he was out of office Doug continued to influence Virginia politics simply by occasionally ENDORSING the Republican candidate over the democrat opponent.

Reagan’s secretary of the Army was as well, as I recall.

Wilder was also a combat veteran in contrast to so many of the limp wristed VA RINO’s...who I shall not begin to name.
