According to Army Lt. Col. Thomas F. Artis, the two victims were not recruiters, but part of a recruiting program called “Hometown Recruiting Assistance.”

Artis says recruiters use soldiers to tell their stories and talk to potential recruits while they are visiting or based back in their home region.

Artis says both soldiers had been previously deployed to either Iraq (web | news) or Afghanistan, but couldn’t offer any further details.

Did it mention if they were in uniform or not? Not in a uniform would lead me to believe it may not be military related, but maybe a "random act of violence" or something personal perhaps.
