Petraeus says that closing Guantanamo "in a responsible manner...sends an important message to the world, as does the commitment of the United States to observe the Geneva Convention when it comes to the treatment of detainees." "I have long been on record as having testified and also in helping write doctrine for interrogation techniques that are completely in line with the Geneva Convention," Petraeus says.

Sounds like he's keeping his options open. Plus Gen Petraeus is a soldier. Leave "enhanced" interrogation to the CIA types.

Close Gitmo. Let them swim home. If they make it, they’re more than welcome to rejoin the jihad.

This is from Radio Free Europe / Radio Liberty.
The head of U.S. Central Command, General David Petraeus, has told RFE/RL he thinks that "on balance" the expected closure of the Guantanamo Bay detention facility and abandonment of so-called enhanced interrogation techniques will "help" U.S. efforts in Iraq and Afghanistan, as well as the struggle against transnational extremist violence.

I agree we should close Gitmo.

I’d rather just kill them in the field.

He is backed into a corner now.
What else can he say? Keep it open. Obama is going to release “torture” pictures that perhaps were not even taken at Abu Ghraib. It will give the impression to the public and world that this is what is happening in Guantanamo bay and why Obama needs to close it down.

If the General says that it should stay open he is screwed.

No sense reading all the posts. Waterboarding is not permitted according to the Army manual. He’s in the Army. He’s against waterboarding.

Well of course closing Gitmo is the right thing to do. That was never the question.

The question is what to do with all these terrorist scumbags we currently have there. If someone came up with a GOOD answer to that I’d be all in favor of closing Gitmo. Without an answer, it has to stay open.

No other countries will take them. Putting them into our legal system via supermax prisons has so many problems I can’t even list them all. Where should they go?

Oh know...another FREEPER President hopeful down the drain...lol. That is why I don’t get on the FREEPER bandwagon when discussing future Presidents. Too many have turned out awful. I always wait until the primaries which I wish most FREEPERS would too.

I agree. Let’s close it. And shoot all future battlefield combatants on sight.

When Obama is forced to relent, and decides Gitmo will remain open, Petraeus will agree with that too.

I think it's a good idea. Now get them off of US soil and get some floatin ships going in the middle of the ocean and put them there. Or better yet, take no prisoners.

Then I'd say finish the job and Iraq (regadless if it was right or wrong in the first place, that decision was made) and Afghanistan (which was needed), then go home, and not get tied up in foreign entanglements in the future unless it is a very last resort.

Generals will not be backstabbing their Chief. What is happening lately is that obambi is requiring Public Loyalty Oaths from his Generals, before he sacrifices and surrenders the military overseas.

obambi is trying to forestall a Coup. He know he doesn’t have the guts to fight NK or Iran or even Venezuela. AND he knows that America’s enemies have the >blackmale< goods on him and Larry Sinclair and Donald Young....telephone calls, photos and emails.
