I never considered the service/server waitress area. Then again I never worked in that field more than a summer or two.
That’s really going to help productivity when the rest of the hamburger flippers are paying for their fellow flipper’s vacation at the beach. Not to worry, there will be less traffic at the drive through when a number 2 at McDonald’s costs $15.00!

What businesses don’t give 1 week paid vacation after 1 year of employment? What businesses don’t give paid holidays after 90 days?

We do, but some don’t and the point is, it’s their CHOICE. If the employees don’t like it, they can find a job elsewhere. that’s capitalism.
people seem pretty stupid to me most of the time. How can 48% think we should have a federal law mandating paid vacation, but 57% think government shouldn’t say how MANY days?
So apparently at least 8% of those who favor a law requiring vacation would be OK if companies complied with the law by providing 1 hour of vacation to their employees.
Government has no business mandating the employer-employee relationship. If I want to get paid more money instead of getting vacation, I should be allowed to do so without government interference .
Of course, some states require that you take a lunch break. I think California requires that you certify each day that you took your lunch break.
The corrupt politicians will always play to that ignorant and the freebie angle.
And the freebies never show, because intelligent people know there is no such thing as a free lunch.
If you haven't yet seen it, the Hugo Chavez Show on Frontline’s website is worth watching. The image of the sewing machines manned and ready by eager workers, waiting for the jobs that never comes sticks in my mind. The sheer stupidity of the seamstresses illustrated by that one scene is priceless.

Employment doesn’t make us wealthy — production does.

A lot of businesses can't. If one or two people call in sick, yet alone go on vacation they would be very hard pressed to keep their doors open.
Why do they always do this. One, we don’t know the question, two, if 48 percent was for it 52% are against it. Last time I looked 52 was higher than 48, but they always put the vote they want up, even if it was 22 % they would have a screaming headline. The percentages have no bearing when you don’t know the actual question asked or how it was asked.

What I do not understand is the government gets involved in many things, EVERYTIME they make the situation worse, no exceptions. rats, and others keep voting for those that promise to make government bigger.

Calling them ignorant is being too kind. They are not just ignorant, they’re corrupt. Wanting a hand out is not just stupid, it’s wanting what one hasn’t earned, it is nothing more than thievery.
