Forty-eight percent (48%) of U.S. voters favor a federal law requiring companies to provide paid vacation for all full-time and part-time employees, but most dont think it would be good for the economy.
Thirty-eight percent (38%) oppose a law mandating paid vacation, according to a new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey. A Florida Democratic congressman is planning to introduce such a law in the House this week.
Fifty-two percent (52%) of all voters believe most companies already provide paid vacations for full-time employees. Twenty-four percent (24%) do not think that is true, and another 24% are not sure.
More than three-out-of-four voters (76%) nationwide say it should be a companys decision how much vacation time to provide for its workers rather than one made by the government. Just 14% say the government should determine how much vacation time a companys workers get.
Support for mandated paid vacation drops dramatically when the government starts determining how much time-off an employee should get. Only 31% [48% of Dems, 16% of Republicans, and 27% of Independents] of all voters support a law such as the one in France that requires companies to give all employees 30 days of paid vacation time.
Fifty-seven percent (57%) oppose requiring companies to pay all employees for 30 days of vacation each year.
Just 27% of all voters think a law requiring companies to provide paid vacation would be good for the economy. Forty-two percent (42%) say such a law would hurt the economy, while another 21% say it would have no impact.
...
Sixty-nine percent (69%) of Democrats think a law requiring paid vacation is a good idea, but 55% of Republicans disagree. A plurality of voters not affiliated with either party also oppose such a law by an eight-point margin, 45% to 37%.

I prefer a government provided 365 day a year paid vacation. And...
Free housing.
Free car.
Free health care.
Free food.
Rasmussen should have included, “...and would you be willing to pay for these vacations by raising YOUR taxes?”
And a living wage!
What businesses don’t give 1 week paid vacation after 1 year of employment? What businesses don’t give paid holidays after 90 days?
I’ve never worked for one.
I’m series ;D!
You can always have 365 days vacation by being unemployed.
Free vacations.
Free clothes.
Free college educations.
Another euro-socialist style mandate.
Free Cheese, who wants some............................
A lot of people calling themselves Americans these days want government nannies above all else.
Will Texas just secede already so I can rent the U-Haul?
The creation of the four day work week was very popular in France. When they tried to repeal it because it was killing the economy, the “Utes” rioted. Of course, they had they had time to riot since they were all unemployed.
Government intervention has ruined our lives enough already. When will these “48%” realize this?
Morons ping.
“Free Cheese, who wants some............................”
I already have some, but someone keeps moving it!
Complete democracy is just mob rule.A large percentage of the people will never bother to learn the reality of economics or physics so they will vote for “magic” solutions that will never work.
I am a consultant. Who is going to pay my vacation?
I get (unpaid) days off, but haven't had a paid vacation since 1982.
Pretty scary, if the numbers are accurate. And this is the same Rasmussen organization that not long ago had a poll showing a solid majority believed in LESS government interference with our lives. But apparently a solid plurality think it’s OK to spend more of our own money to give us more leisure time. Convoluted thinking, IMO.
I want free ice cream.
Vanilla, dipped.
I’m an independent contractor as well. What are they going to do make me take an extra paycheck each year along with holiday pay? Where is that money supposed to come from?
WTF?
